As The Ruin Falls Lyrics
Only now that you have taught me
(but how late) my lack
I see the chasm
and everything you are was making
my heart into a bridge
by which I might get back
from exile and grow man
and now the bridge is breaking
for this I bless you as the ruin falls
the pain you bring
far greater than all other gain
(but how late) my lack
I see the chasm
and everything you are was making
my heart into a bridge
by which I might get back
from exile and grow man
and now the bridge is breaking
far greater than all other gain

well here is the original poem by C.S. Lewis:
As the Ruin Falls
All this is flashy rhetoric about loving you I've never had a selfless thought since I was born I am mercenary and self-seeking through and through I want God, you, all friends merely to serve my turn
Peace, reassurance, pleasure are the goals I seek I cannot crawl one inch outside my proper skin I talk of love, a scholar's parrot may talk greek but, self-imprisoned, always end where I begin
Only that now you have taught me, but how late my lack, I see the chasm and everything you are was making my heart into a bridge, by which I might get back from exile and grow man... and now the bridge is breaking
For this I bless you as the ruin falls the pains you give me are more precious than all other gains. C. S. Lewis
this poem (and song) is about how a man was with a woman for a while and all he ever thought about was himself..."i spoke of love, a scholars parrot may talk greek", <<shows how he would speak to her about how he loved her, but he never knew the real meaning. finally, in the thrice song part, (only now that....) he finally realizes what he has been lacking. but its too late. he thanks her, now, for teaching him about love. he does this saying "for this i bless you as the ruin falls, the pain you bring, far greater than all other gains"
this guy is a genius ^^^
;)
and so is thrice..
Man I had no idea that was a poem by C.S. Lewis! Thanks for pointing that out, -punk-.
thrice......what would we do without them
I know what we would do without them, cry ourselves to sleep every night and pray for god to kill us painlessly while we sleep so that we could end our horrible lives. JJ, I'd probabaly be really really sad but I'd eventually get over it and go listen to Thursday.
::Agrees with Wolf::
cs lewis was a freaking genius and thrice is great for recognizing it.
Definantly the best song by thrice. <333
If you'd never heard them how could you miss them? I guess there'd be a hole that nothing could ever fill.. I think I'd have to listen to Thursday and A Static Lullaby after each other if there was no Thrice though. Good song, good poem, thanks for sharing that with us -punk- :)
