Love Ridden Lyrics

Love ridden, I will look at you
With the focus I gave to my birthday candles
I've wished on the lidded blue flames under your brow
And, baby, I wished for you

Nobody sees when you are lyin' in your bed
And I wanna crawl in with you but I cry instead
I want your warm but it will only make me colder when it's over
So I can't tonight, baby

No, not baby anymore
If I need you, I'll just use your simple name
Only kisses on the cheek from now on
And in a little while we'll only have to wave

My hand won't hold you down no more
The path is clear to follow through
I stood too long in the way of the door
And now I'm givin' up on
You

No, not baby anymore
If I need you, I'll just use your simple name
Only kisses on the cheek from now on
And in a little while we'll only have to wave

No, not baby anymore
If I need you, I'll just use your simple name
Only kisses on the cheek from now on
And in a little while we'll only have to wave

it is about that awkward ex friendship transition but i think it's also that she still wants to be with him... he wants to break up and while it's so painful to be friends she can't refuse beucase she loves him. i love everything she does... it's like i've felt it all before and she writes it so poetically and so melodically.

It sounds to me like she's wishing that she could have made the relationship work, but it didn't play out as she wanted. She realizes this, so she starts distancing herself from him to protect herself from the hurt that comes with the eventual break up.

She transitions from baby to just his name, no more terms of endearments, no more intimate kisses, just friendly kisses then to simple hellos.

She reached the point where she's given up on the relationship - but is still extremely sorrowful about it.

i totally agree...but i think they became friends because he was moving away or something...which would explain the line "in a while we'll only have to wave..."

The "i love you but i am not in love with you" phase, it's just uncomfortable and hurts.

this song is so great to listen to after you've been dumped. it's like she wants to talk to the guy, wants to touch him, wants to just say hello, but she knows how awkward it's going to be. so true.
