To Your Love Lyrics
Here's another speech you wish I'd swallow
Another cue for you to fold your ears
Another train of thought too hard to follow
Chuggin' along to the song that belongs to the shifting of gears
Please forgive me for my distance
The pain is evident in my existence
Please forgive me for my distance
The shame is manifest in my resistance
To your love
To your love
To your love
I would've warned you, but really, what's the point?
Caution could but rarely ever helps
Don't be down, my demeanor tends to disappoint
It's hard enough even trying to be civil to myself
Please forgive me for my distance
The pain is evident in my existence
Please forgive me for my distance
The shame is manifest in my resistance
To your love
To your love
To your love
My derring-do allows me to
Dance the rigadoon around you
But by the time I'm close to you
I lose my desideratum and now you
So now you
Have it, so tell me, baby, what's the word?
Am I your gal or should I get out of town?
I just need to be reassured
Do you just deal it out or can you deal with all that I lay
Down?
Please forgive me for my distance
The pain is evident in my existence
Please forgive me for my distance
The shame is manifest in my resistance

Lol just to add - my fav line in this, ''My derring-do allows me to dance the rigadoon around you''. AMAZING! the music.. the way she sings it. she's like an amazon warrior. derring-do is apparently 'dareing do' as in courage, and rigadoon is a type of dance that tribal people do where you stay away from eachother, like dancing around eachother with no contact... i think she's using this image to describe the way her conversations go with a paticular man.
This has such a sarcastic feel to it. It's like a drunken toast braided with anger.
The man in this relationship seems to be the kind of person that starts closing down whenever someone starts talking about emotional needs. He loves her, but he doesn't really connect emotionally with her. The woman is a person who is in a bad mental state, and though she really needs someone to talk to, she distances herself from other people because of the shame of being so needy. But it sounds like the relationship is maybe falling apart due to this disconnect, so she's finally stepping up and saying this is what I need, can you accept me and listen and support me spiritually and emotionally?
oh the bitter scornful sound of a one-sided relationship. Dating someone who can dish it out but can't take it really sucks and that is kinda what this is about. This certian guy does all the talking but does none of the listening and all this girl wants is a straighforward answer she doesn't want to be the go to girl anymore she wants this guy to make a choice "Am i your girl or should i get out of town" because the bull is driving her crazy.
this song describes my last relationship with my last ex... we had been together for 2 years and i put up with all of his shit and finally broke up with him... we got back together 6 months later and he couldn't stand that i wasn't so openly emotional ("please forgive me for my distance the pain is evident in my existance") i was too hurt to put up with his shit or let him in again... maybe he changed but he'd screwed up once and i wouldn't let him hurt me again. i love fiona... she's a goddess!
I think fiona must have the same kinda problems I have in relationships, I start to like a guy, i chase him and once I get him, i'm already ready to move on, or I find it difficult to love him, perhaps because I find it hard to love myself, an example of this is ''please forgive me for my distance, the pain is evident in my existance''. she's saying, i'm sorry i can't promise you anything, i feel really messed up and hurt''. Theres also a sense of threat in this song, she goes on to say ''can you deal with'' almost as if she's putting him up for the challange. she's saying, ''you'll go off me''.
karo rob.. that description rules..
she's resisting his love, he's not understanding why she's resisting him because nothing he's done justifies her actions--it's just her, she can't help it, it's how she's always been. she wants him to be level with her and reassure her that he wants her because otherwise she has to get away from him quick so as to avoid getting hurt. she knows it's love but doesn't know if she can admit that yet.
to me, it's always been fiona apologising for not being what her lover expects her to be. the person she's with has less scars, and less pain than she has. it feels like she's warning him that she's gonna cause him pain. kinda like a disclaimer to being with her.
kara rob, i totally agree.
she guesses she's sorry, but she's not changing.
