In The Meantime Lyrics

And in the end we shall achieve in time
The thing they call divine
When all the stars'll smile for me
When all is well and well is all for all
And forever after
Maybe in the meantime wait and see

(Chorus)
We love the all the all of you
Where lands are green and skies are blue
When all in all we're just like you
We love the all of you

And when I cry for me I cry for you
With tears of holy joy
For all the days still to come
And did I ever say I'd never play
Or fly toward the sun
Maybe in the meantime, something's gone

(Chorus)

Well that sounds fine so I'll see you sunshine
Give my love to the future of the humankind
Okay, okay, it's not okay.
While it's on my mind there's a girl that fits the crime
For a future love dream that I'm still to find
But in the meantime.

(Chorus)

I get the impression the song's taking the tone of some monumental galactic message to the human race, a calming, peace-bringing signal from a benevolent race that says "We'll meet you eventually when you're ready, and there are amazing things to share between the stars, but in the meantime..."

Given the band's name and its debts to glamrock and predecessors who dealt with big ideas in their music, it seems that's as likely an explanation as any. Particularly the build-up leading to the end of the song, where the vocals get more intense and we hear "...we're just like you, just like you, just like you...we're just like YOU..." as the song ends.

I think the chorus could be the central message to the human race:

We love the all the all of you Where lands are green and skies are blue When all in all we're just like you We love the all of you

From other sentient beings who think it's amazing and wonderful that there's other intelligent life between the long dark expanses of space.

You just made one of my favorite songs even more fantastic.

@PunchingCape Interesting. I keep thinking of the first 2 lines though. It sounds so "heavenly" like angel stuff, no?

"And in the end we shall achieve in time The thing they call divine"

I hadn't considered space things, but yeah with a name like that it makes sense.

This song seems to be about God to me. About taking care of mankind and all that. This song totally feels like grade 8 and all that when I used to listen to Big Shiny Tunes. But it's not on BST so I dunno, haha, but it's sweet either way.

It's about God - the 'all of you'. And yes in the meantime love what he gave you, including your future love crime girl (love being the closest to God you'll ever get on Earth).

To me this song is about the future of mankind when we are all at peace and loving each other. The whole things talking about how great it will be in the future. "in the meantime" or until then we will have to wait and see.

the intro to this song is taken from the song "Telephone and Rubber Band" by instrumental group Penguin Cafe Orchestra.

this song is about our time on earth. the first verse says were eventually going to die but in the meantime were here on earth. the chorus is refering to the earth in we love the all the all of you. it also talks about the dying part of leaving earth when it talks about giving the love to the future of humankind. cherish your time here

Picked as the #1 rock song of all time by Adam Carolla on the Adam Carolla Show in 2006! How's that for the most trivial of trivia?!?
