Understanding what has
Happened before us
We are confined to a
Darkened hidden tomb
The conquering of our world
As we knew it
Rise above this pit
Of sorrow and pain
Among the few
We are the avant leaders
We've got to live
Through this trouble and decay
This question haunts my mind
Will we survive this night?
We're harboring the meek
Will we survive the sleep?
Unsure and scared
We are planning our reprise
Revolves around this world
We don't know anymore
The odds against us
Yet we're stronger and prevailing
Learn from mistakes
Counting souls for sale

this song is about the after party. after every show they have a party an get fucked up. im pretty sure this is about something to that effect. u pass out:its called the sleep. ask any stoner like me an theyll tell u the same
I think you are getting a little too deep southofheavan. The song is nothing more than gibberish in the mold of Judas Priest and many bands before and after. It is merely a song about rising to the top of the metal game and leaving others behind. Don't get me wrong this is my favorite Pantera song of all time but if you look at Cowboys vs later albums you will see how far their song writing has come, with some exceptions of course. This song though contains arguabaly dimes best solo of any pantera song, and the album as a whole I feel is his best work of any major pantera release.
I think Balljack70 is right, I wouldn't say it's Dime's best solo (Floods is better if you ask me), but it IS one of the best solos he did, in my opinion. It's a great song, probably my favorite from the Cowboys From Hell album.
Omg.. i love this song.. thank you kiel, love you for telling me about 'em... get the fcuking cd.. it's awsomee..!!!
i've owend cowboys from hell and i'm ashamed to say i only recently come across this song. it's one of my all time favorite pantera songs ever.
I'm currently obsessed with this song. The solo is hardcore!
i think its about a disease
Incredible song. Pantera knew what they were doing, no doubt. Phil Anselmo=LEGEND. Dimebag Darrell=BIGGER LEGEND. Rex Brown and Vinnie Paul=UNSONG HEROES. These two deserve more credit. Pantera lives
kickass song and the fucking most epic solo ever! dimebag was the best guitarist ever to walk the earth, and Pantera was the greatest, heaviest, and most kickass band ever! in a show in 1990, phil said that this song was about the "aftermath of chemical warfare"
ive always seen this song as their view on the grunge movement and the dying out of metal bands in the 90s. in a way metal was in a sleep and they were the one band standing in the way of that. im not sure im just making a guess here. "the odds are against us, yet we're stronger and prevailing"
