I agree, this song is very well done and people just say it sucks because he's gay. All Elton's words are written by Bernie Taupin who isn't gay! It's actually about a brother who is leaving and was previously in the war and lost his sight there.
Anyone who would say that is a complete ass. The music and the lyrics has nothing to do with sexual orientation. This song is beautiful.
