Jukebox Breakdown Lyrics

If you've got a quarter, you can stick it in my neck and I'll sing whatever song you want for whatever mood you're in. Isn't that what you expect? I can sing you to sleep. And all you want from me is a broken heart and a mouthful of blood. Well I'll carry this casket if that's what I have to do. So bring on the dark sky and let it cover me entirely. And I'll run down to the river and grab five buckets of water. Wait right there where you are and I will serve you at your table. I hope you like my restaurant and the lighting is right. The jukebox is in the corner. My mouth is the speaker. It plays your favorite songs and you know where the coin slot is.

I believe that this song has nothing to do with a girl at all. I think this is Chris saying that he is sick of who he is. Even in the title, "Jukebox Breakdown", he makes a symbolic comparison to music. "Put a quarter in my neck" = you pay me to sing for you. "I'll sing a song for whatever mood your in" = we listen to saves the day for the lyrics that relate to our moods. "Isn't that what you expect?" we basically expect Chris to "carry our crosses" for us. "All you want from me is a broken heart and a mouthful of blood" we want him to sing songs that describe our hatred like rocks tonic and as your ghost takes flight. This is a song about Chris realizing he is a puppet to the fans and that he does everything for us.

It's about expectations, It's about a girl that has complete control and you will tend to her every need, and all she wants "is a broken heart" ,and whenever she wants it she gets it and you do it, play her favorite songs, with a broken heart

i agree. Its about this guy wanting to do everything right but she doesn't like it, she wants more excitement , she wants the "hunt". But he doesn't understand. He'd do anything for her.

yeah, I'd have to say emoboy nailed it too... like how she wants a broken heart but he just likes her too much to do that. Or something. I dunno.

hmm...i'm torn between Brodie TS's answer and emoboy's...I have more a leanin to emoyboy's though...because he says things like "grab five buckets of water" that has really no meaning to himself but rather to the girl he is serving... I think whoever he might have wrote this about took him for granted and it wasn't until after the relationship that he realized it.

I feel this song is also about Chris Conley's service to his loyal public. I think that the whole "5 buckets of water" reference is just another way of saying he is working as hard as he can for his fans. I hope this isnt expressing any condesention to his fame......boy would it suck to not see these guys around anymore.

hmm..brodie has a point, i've never thought about the song this way before. i was more along the lines of what emoboy said. but, either way this is still an awesome song
