This song to me is about realizing that the person you are in love with doesn't love you anymore, and trying to be brave and deal with it. I think that the girl doesn't want to hurt him, because of how he says, "I know it's not easy finding words to let me know, but the pain of make-believing is much more than just letting go." To me, thoses lines show that she was trying to find a way to tell him that wouldn't damage him too much, but she didn't know how. And in the end, it was her eyes that told him the truth, not her (Hence, where he says "Secrets your eyes can not deny"). This song is special to me becuase it tells the tale of a very brave, strong person. Some people in real life actually do go on "make-believing" in their lives, even when reality is staring them in the face. Sometimes it is simply better to move on, and I think that's what Eric Benet is saying
