Amateur Lyrics
I'm told the case is now closed So I can come to my senses Pull in the question is posed I'll have this meager defense
I was hoping that you'd know better than that I was hoping but you're an amateur I was hoping that you'd know better But I've been wrong before
Despite conclusions I drew There was a chance you'd surprise me And you'd be better than you 'Cause I'd have left otherwise
I was hoping that you'd know better than that I was hoping but you're an amateur I was hoping that you'd know better But I've been wrong before
So I wasn't thinking clearly So you didn't think at all I thought that was protocol

I LOVe this song. I also love the homade video her friend made that is on her website for this song. it shows her doing just silly stuff an melancholy shots of this and that its great, really arty. anyways this song to me is like the ULTIMATE diss song to a guy she is breaking up with. ooh it just hurts to think about how hurt the guy on the recieving end of this song must feel. my worst nightmare is to be an "amateur" in a relationship.
agreed!
agreed!
I first heard this song while watching the movie "Sliding Doors." In the context of the movie I would have to agree and have always agreed with RainyDayBoy's interpretation.
This song is GREAT! I love it.
If I remember correctly this song is about her record company breakup, and expecting more from them than she, ultimately, got.
Whatever it is about it is, as all Aimee Mann song are, beautifully sung
i think that this song is one where a person is hoping their crush/boyfriend/person they're "talking" to will be perfect for them because that's what they want. unfortunately, she finds out that he isn't all she made him out to be. this seems to have happened to her in the past but she still gives out chances to the next guy. because of this, i kind of feel it's ironic because since she keeps making the same mistakes, she could almost be considered an "amateur" herself - someone who isn't an expert on a subject
