a great song. one of ash's less punky ones, but still one of the best off the album
I think it's about a failing relationship and how the girl's life is being torn apart and "ebbing away" as a result of it. She still loves the guy "although there's still pulsing in your veins" but he wants to end the relationship "you can never tell her, how close you are to letting go".
One of Ash's best and definitely a highlight of the album.
Adding to what I said - I think "still you hold on, as the light is fading out" means the girl is desperate for the relationship to continue but it is fading out fast. The "lustre" from her eyes is the longing for the guy to restore it. The relationship is ebbing and decaying away as the guy feels he has to move on.
The pulsing in her veins is her desire to be with him even after he's broken up with her.
I have to disagree with shakermaker123, for me this is mostly about depression and clinging onto life, if only just. Everything's drawing in and seemingly heading towards an inevitable conclusion, although at the particular moment the person is still alive with 'pulsing in his veins', as if trying to hold on against the 'call from beyond the grave'.
There's not many songs I can think of that have had the ability to bring me close to tears, but this is one of them.
