Harry Truman Lyrics
America needs you
Harry Truman
Harry could you please come home
Things are looking bad
I know you would be mad
To see your favorite men
Prevail upon the land you love
America's wondering
How we got here
Harry all we get is lies
We're gettin' safer cars
Rocket ships to mars
From men who'd sell us out
To get themselves a piece of power
We'd love to hear you speak your mind
In plain and simple ways
Call a spade a spade
Like you did back in the days
You would play piano
Each morning walk a mile
Speak of what was going down
With honesty and style
America's calling
Harry Truman
Harry you know what to do
The world is turnin' round and losin' lots of ground
Oh Harry is there something we can do to save the land we love
Oh woah woah woah
America's calling
Harry Truman
Harry you know what to do
The world is turnin' round
And losin' lots of ground
Harry is there something we can do to save the land we love
Oh
Harry is there something we can do to save the land we love
Harry

Harry Truman was the lowest-approval rated president, but over time he became one of the best-viewed presidents of all time. He ended WWII and brought the dream of the American way. However, he was highly criticized with the Cold War and Korea. This is basically the same thing that we're going through with George W. Bush.
@Warren67 Comparing Truman to Bush is like comparing Van Gogh to a house painter.

I have to disagree with Warren67's comparison of Truman to Bush. Yes, Truman was very highly-looked upon posthumously, so to speak, but I don't think Bush will have the same effect.
According to interviews with band members, this song was heavily influenced by Randy Newman.
This song was written by keyboardist Robert Lamm for the 1975 Chicago VIII album. It was written as a lament to the days when a President could be trusted and was not perceived to be a crook and a liar. Gotta remember, we had just seen the resignation of Richard Nixon in 74 with the Watergate scandal, Vietnam was about to end and the economy was starting to take a nose dive. This was just Lamm's way of wishing for a leader with conviction and character. It is right that Truman's popularity had fallen towards the end of his Presidency, with the Korean War. History has given him high marks since.
Warner 67 is spot on. There are many similarities between Bush and Truman, mainly that both men worked in the private sector before entering politics, both were lampooned for lack of intellect by people who had less, and both were rumored to have lost an election that they actually won. On top of that, both were heavily second=guessed for making a difficult decision that lesser men would have avoided. If only Bush would take a cue from Truman rather than from his timid advisors...
Another song that is so applicable to today. I suspect history will not look fondly on Let's Go Brandon.
