Xanadu Lyrics
A place where nobody dared to go
The love that we came to know
They call it Xanadu
And now, open your eyes and see what we have made is real
We are in Xanadu
A million lights are dancing and you are, a shooting star
An everlasting world and you're here with me, eternally
Xanadu, Xanadu
(Now we are here) in Xanadu
Xanadu, Xanadu
(Now we are here) in Xanadu
Xanadu, your neon lights will shine for you, Xanadu
The love that echoes of long ago
You needed the world to know
They are in Xanadu
The dream that came through a million years
That lived through all the tears
It came to Xanadu
A million light are dancing and you are, a shooting star
An everlasting world and you're here with me, eternally
Xanadu, Xanadu
(Now we are here) in Xanadu
Xanadu, Xanadu
(Now we are here) in Xanadu
Xanadu, your neon lights will shine for you, Xanadu
Now that I'm here, now that you're near, in Xanadu
The love that we came to know
They call it Xanadu
And now, open your eyes and see what we have made is real
We are in Xanadu
A million lights are dancing and you are, a shooting star
An everlasting world and you're here with me, eternally
Xanadu, Xanadu

Now that I'm here, now that you're near, in Xanadu

Yes, it's from the movie "Xanadu", for which ELO wrote and performed a number of songs.
"Xanadu" is from the poem "Kubla Khan", by Samuel Taylor Coleridge:
"In Xanadu did Kubla Khan A stately pleasure dome decree..."
ok, i think olivia newton-john did this from the movie of the same name, and i'm guessing xanadu is a synonym for utopia or some other form of valhalla ie being in love is like being in utopia. what terrifies me is that i'm sitting here anaylsing the song, that i stumbled on by mistake. someone help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
@Pixie_dust_tt Correct, the poem Kubla Khan by Coleridge describes a dreamy utopian world. This fits perfectly with the theme of the movie and the song.

this song brings something amazing, xanadu is probably the WORST movie ever, with the BEST soundtrack ever.
Actually, Nolesy, the Rush song is a completely different song. ELO didn't steal the song and make it theirs. They wrote a song with the same name, that's all.
they may have been aiming more for something like.. ... the history book on the shelf, is always repeating itseeelf xanadu! couldn't escape if I wanted to xanadu! finally facing my xanadu
Being a huge ELO fan, I bought this album the day it came out. Here we are 26 years later, and the side with Olivia Newton John has yet to be played. Thank God that the sides were seperated!
This song was actually a Rush song before it was an ELO song. Completely different. And it beats the shit out of this version. One of progressive rock's finest efforts.
