Where Do We Go from Here? Lyrics

Every day just gets a little shorter don't you think
Take a look around you, and you'll see just what I mean
People got to come together, not just out of fear

Where do we go
Where do we go
Where do we go from here?

Try to find a better place, but soon it's all the same
What once you thought was a paradise is not just what it seems
The more I look around I find, the more I have to fear

Where do we go
Where do we go
Where do we go from here?

I know it's hard for you to
Change your way of life
I know it's hard for you to do
The world is full of people
Dying to be free
So if you don't my friend
There's no life for you, no world for me

Let's all get together soon, before it is too late
Forget about the past and let your feelings fade away
If you do I'm sure you'll see the end is not yet near

Where do we go
Where do we go
Where do we go from here?

Cover art for Where Do We Go from Here? lyrics by Chicago

Striking lyrics and just as relevant today as they were back in the 60s. I imagine a reaction to the Vietnam war - basically a message of loving and tolerating our neighbours. 'Get together soon, before it is too late' - before there is more warfare and maybe The Big One. 'What once you thought was a paradise is not just what it seems' strikes a chord with me. Growing up back in the 60s I dreamed that we were all going to live happily ever after with love all around - and then you wake up!

Little known fact: This was Peter Cetera's first song with Chicago.

I can't believe anyone could miss the relevance of this song.

Chicago wrote this song immediately after the Kent State killings by the Ohio National Guard in 1970 and it was a rhetorical question about what to do next.

Young Americans had protested for years to end the war and now had been gunned down for it. And Chicago wrote the song with its very sad and moody lyrics as if there was nothing else we could do.

Check the date of release and the date of the slaughter at KSU and it will all make sense.
