Ravine Lyrics

Have you heard - have you heard -
About this girl who was ripped up
By her roots
Wanna know - what she learned?
Like humility - You win when you lose

I have learned - I have learned
The most horrifying nights have ends
I was hurt I was lost.
In the dark I found the way to a friend

I'm standing here in my ravine.
Once again I see a piece of the sky
And my joy'll never be denied
'Cause I was meant to be here -
The only place on earth
Where you are near - where you are near

Was a flower so frail -
And I let the trees grow wild around me
Grew so high hid the sky -
Shaded everything I needed to see

Then one night someone came
Took a knife an ripped me up by my roots
Tossed astray, far away
In my darkest night I started to pray
I am standing....

Why do you, why do you ask
Why I'm not blaming my god?
I'll tell you, I'll tell you what -
He was the only one there

I am standing...

I read this ... "Ravine" was written by Jenny of AoB and apparently this song is a direct reference to an real-life home attack that Jeny and her mother were victims of, when a crazed woman came in and even stabbed Jenny's mother in the hand. This happened in 2004.

This song is truly beautiful. Feels like an awakening.

moodylupin probably has it right. But allow me another interpretation:

In AOB's meteoric rise, Jenny lost her foundation in God. She became so swept up ("I let the trees grow wild around me") that she lost sight of God ("Grew so high hid the sky - Shaded everything I needed to see "). However, she's settling down after this chaos and finding God again.

Actually you both are right. She let the trees grow around her means she let fame get between her a God. Then the night of the attack she remembered and started to pray. After that horrible night she gives God credit for a safe outcome. He was the only one there.

This is right off their site.

Oh my god!! I cant believe no one commented on this song. It's so gd!!! N e ways, i think this song is about a girl who feels used by her bf after he breaks up with her and she finds peace and solace with God."He was the only one there" "Then one night someone came Took a knife an ripped me up by my roots Tossed astray, far away In my darkest night I started to pray"

Thats when her bf broke up with her. Its kinda sad...

Well come on A of B fans. It's obviously just about a ravine with some plants growing in it.

It has nothing to do with God/Buddha/Flying Spaghetti Monster so GET OVER IT.
