The song is deeply Luciferian, or more approprately, Osirian and drenched in the symbolism of the Mystery Schools. This song has deep, deep meaning for those who have ears to hear or eyes to read. Stick with me.
Approximately 4,000 years ago, Moses smashed the golden calf (Apis) and symbolically ushered in the Age of Aries (previously the age of Taurus), and the worship of this Age is heavily symbolized by the ram/lamb, shepherding, and sacrifice.
Christianity entered the scene at the beginning of the Pisces Age 2,000 years ago and the symbol for Pisces is the fish, as well as for Christianity. The Age of Pisces could be called the “Age of Deception”. Some of the keywords symbolizing Pisces are: deception, illusion, hidden, misled, confusion, fraudulent schemes, fantasy world, secrets, false, fake, mysteries, drugs/alcohol and on the positive side, kind, intuitive, and gentle. Recall Lucifer is also first introduced as a serpent who encourages man to take from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, to which Man does and, and his "eyes were opened" and he was to become like god. Lucifer bears striking resemblance to Osiris, the god of the Sun, also associated with knowledge and creative power.

And the minds true liberation - again harking to the concept of the age of knowledge and liberation from falsehoods.
This is a celebration of a new age, represented by Aquarius, an age of knowledge. If we are to follow in the same footsteps as our ancestors, the god of this age will be Osiris or Lucifer.

Although I do believe that there are some people who really do believe in an age of love and light and are looking at this as such. So knowing what I know now, and my history as a Christian, I have begun to wonder if we really have been kept in the dark to our detriment and that we are more prisoners of that religion than members.The Illuminati...

Although I do believe that there are some people who really do believe in an age of love and light and are looking at this as such. So knowing what I know now, and my history as a Christian, I have begun to wonder if we really have been kept in the dark to our detriment and that we are more prisoners of that religion than members.The Illuminati members drink blood and eat flesh of their adrenaline filled victims. Are those not the words of the sacrifice at Mass? Or, has the Catholic Mass been saving us all of this time from those who eat and drink human blood for sustenance. This is all quite scary and intruiging.

I don’t think it has to be bad though. The man of lawlessness is very real and will come as a giver of light, but God is sovereign and he always blesses the called. So that knowledge will lead to amazing positive peace promoting advances for mankind if they are governed by the Most High.

@Genesis35 In the Grateful Dead song "Ripple" I thought water was used a metaphor for knowledge, i.e. the ripple, the fountain. Until now, I thought that was an isolated example. But now that I think about it, I guess water has been commonly used as a symbol for knowledge. I think the reason that the Norse god, Odin, is missing an eye is because he went to some sacred river and traded his eye for omniscience. Did a quick google search, and it seems to be a thing.

It is an astrological age that will begin sometime between 2150 and 2595 depending on who you listen to. The New Age movement in the 1960s believed the time to be at the cusp of the Age of Pisces, hence the "dawning of the Age of Aquarius". The dawning would involve radical change as some in the 60s attempted. The promise of rapid technological and sociological advancement was consistent with the idea of peace and brotherhood.

I think the song was a foretelling of what is happening now in the world. The battle between good and evil and evil on earth being defeated finally by Love and unity. The revelation of the truth about our history, the universe, the many galactic races and other planets and an ultimate coming together in peace. Sungazing to open our eyes, specifically our third eye, our knowledge of one consciousness, the power of crystals to produce energy, the God and the power within all of us.
For the five black Americans in the Fifth Dimension in 1969, this song probably had a deeper meaning than the original lyricists intended. After centuries of racism, slavery, lynchings, oppression, and discrimination, a new age filled with love, trust, understanding, and the mind’s true liberation would be so welcome. Listen to how impassioned Billy Dee Williams is when he implores listeners to open up their hearts and let the sunshine in. I read that as let love and reason in and let hate out. I have listened to this song my entire life and only realized today what it truly means. This song has always given me chills. Now I know why, and why the Fifth Dimension felt so compelled to record it.
