    I think it's about some rich kid (a fortunate son of a fortunate son) Who is too lazy to do anything productive and gets everything handed to him (I don't take the bus and I never walked too far, The furthest I got was my own backyard. A fist full of cash that somebody else earned, They sent me some more when it all got burned.) And because of this even though he is happy in terms of material things and has the ability to be or do whatever he wants he can't understand the beauty of the world or what life is all about.(Eyes wide open I can't see.     i agree with you froggy this song is about a rich kid, who johnny protraits as being a lazy sponge, who never worked a day in his/her life and always gets what he/she wants. And cant actually see that u cannot buy friends and the world is about more than material objects.

    Goo goo dolls songs are often metaphors, although it maybe about the rich kid. To me its about the "club 18" gernation. That may be a bit of a european term. It's this generations 18-25's. Many are lost in a pool of alcohol, drugs and empty sex. Many don't work, or if they do they dont have good jobs, simply because of messing around at school. Drains on society, perhaps. Again this is just my interpretation.

    I agree the songs about a rich kid, who doesnt work and everything is just handed to him. but i think that hes realises this and wants to make something of himself and get away from the life he lives. "I wanna' take control, I wanna' make it all mine. At least I could kick it all down."

    i think this song is about a fortunately-rich kid who only knows how to drink and party (like paris hilton.). i think Goo Goo Dolls is pointing out the irony of being born rich.

    I didn't really think of it this way but after listening to it and reading these comments I do also think it's about a rich kid who even though he has all the things he'd ever need, he's not happy. When I hear this song though I'm reminded of that feeling you get when you've got no direction and just not sure what to do with your life. You know you need to make a change but you just don't know how.
