Be Your Own Girl Lyrics
Pushed to the edge with nothing heavy to hold
Using your clothes as a blanket and a bed
Holding your hands just to lay your head.
Who picked you up, who gathered around
But you don't have to be his girl
And you don't have to be my girl
You can always be your own girl.
Restless and ageless and looking for somethin' to keep,
When you finally fall asleep you're awake in dreams,
Hanging by the ankles in a skeleton ravine.
Punched out the colors, leaving you the blues.
But you don't have to be his girl
And you don't have to be my girl
You can always be your own girl.
Simple and slow and it always brings you here
With broken crayons you've scribbled on the wall
Shapes of nothing and shadow box them all.
Your imagination took the worst hit and cut it's skin.
But you don't have to be his girl,
You don't have to be my girl,
You can always be your own girl.
And it's the same one you could never avoid in yours,
And if you lay down you can hear from tongue to tails
About a tattooed rhythm and drumming by color wheel.
And you can't tie another, another knot of hope.
And you don't have to be his girl
And you don't have to be my girl
You can always be your own girl.

Good song. It's about being your own person even if you fail on your own.

I love this song. It's about a very dependant girl who needs to be with someone to be happy. She has two options, two boys who care about her, and the one who cares about her the most is telling her, "You don't have to be my girl or his girl. You could be your own girl. You don't need us to be happy."

Nice song. And, yeah, I think that you guys have basically nailed the meaning. Well, lest, what I think it means anyway.

I think it's about a girl who is with a guy who really isn't the best for her. She gets drunk constantly and used with him, wakes up in weird places, etc, and there is another guy who cares alot about her who says things not because he wants her to himself, but because they are things she needs to hear.
