Your Love Lyrics

Josie's on a vacation far away
Come around and talk it over
So many things that I'd like to say
You know I like my girls a little bit older
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love tonight

I ain't got many friends left to talk to
No-one's around when I'm in trouble
You know I'd do anything for you
Stay the night - we'll keep it under cover
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love tonight

Try to stop my hands from shakin'
Somethin' in my mind's not makin' sense
It's been awhile since we've been all alone
I can't hide the way I'mm feelin'

As you leave me please would you close the door
and forget what I told you
Just 'cause you're right - that don't mean I'm wrong
Another shoulder to cry upon
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love tonight
Yeah
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love tonight
Lose your love
Lose your love
Lose your love
(ad lib to end)

C'mon guys. Are we really trying to make the singer/speaker "the good guy in love" in this song? The entire lyrics of this song scream a "quickie". "I just want to use your love tonight"- meaning he wants to use her and "I don't want to lose your love tonight"- meaning he will do anything to keep her there, i.e, cuddle with her, be romantic... anything to get in her pants. Josie is obviously younger so he is making the unnamed girl feel better about herself by saying he's always liked his girls older. He want to "talk"- meaning he will probably say stuff to her to make her think he wants to be with her or whatever it takes to convince her. "You know I'd do anything for you, We will keep it under cover"- he is making her feel important and also suggesting, "Hey, you know I think we should keep this under cover," because even though he is cheating on Josie, he doesn't want to break up with Josie. "My hands shakin'... can't hide the way I'm feeling"- He is ready and excited with anticipation as it seems she is giving in to him and he says, "hey, I can't hide that I have feeling for you," and this is where they do "it". As she is leaving he says, "As you leave me please would you close the door and forget what I told you/Just 'cause you're right - that don't mean I'm wrong/ Another shoulder to cry upon."- I get the image that he won't even get up to close the door because now they are done with the quickie he is lying on the bed relaxing. And as she is leaving, he is being a total dick to her saying, "Yeah, you're good but I don't want to be with you. I bet I am just another shoulder for you to cry on. Holla." Lol. That's what I get from this song. I can't see how this is anything about loving the older woman... The entire song screams he just wanted to get in her pants.

Song Meaning

I pretty much agree with everything you typed.

The guy sounds like his woman is away and he is trying to have a one night stand with an older woman.

On the other hand (lol) - I just heard the song and now I am thinking that maybe the woman he is talking to is much younger then him. How he tells her that he prefers older women maybe is his justification to her for not dating her. And he talks about being in trouble (why his friends are not there). Maybe they know he wants this young woman/girl and they want no part of him if he is going to do it. And his hands are shaking because he knows what he is about to do (having sex with this...

@shivalika Seriously. The only questionable item in the entire song are the lines "So many things that I want to say; You know I like my girls a little bit older".

Is he speaking to himself or is he speaking to the Quickie? If it's the former, I think he's admitting to himself that the Quickie is young and she won't understand anything romantic he says or otherwise... but if it's the latter, he's trying to flatter the (older) Quickie to get her in his pocket, as it were.

Not that I ever dated much younger girls and...

The more I listen to this song the more I love it, and the more I am confused about the meaning.

Of course the obvious meaning is that it's about the singer cheating on Josie. However, and this may be me projecting my own experiences onto the song, I have always thought that it is less about cheating, and more about the temptation to cheat.

In particular the line "Another shoulder to cry upon" after they have supposedly parted, has always made me believe that he did not end up cheating on Josie, for whatever reason, perhaps simply from not being able to go through with it, and instead settled for emotional comfort rather than physical. I believe that in the lines:

"Try to stop my hands from shaking But something in my minds not making sense It's been a while since we were all alone I can't hide the way I'm feeling"

He gets to the point of almost going through with the act but is stopped at the end and leaves deciding instead that she will be "another shoulder to cry upon" and that while he wants to use her love, he doesn't wish to loose it.

As for the idea that there he is with a girl too young for him, I don't support this theory, I think it simply means that the girl he is speaking too is older and that he has always had a crush on her.

Though this is simply my opinion and as I say could be me projecting personal experiences, regardless this is a brilliant song.

I love this meaning, thank you

I think this is a brilliant interpretation, however I don't think the woman he invited over is one that he has always had a crush on, but an ex of his, with whom he still has a friendly relationship.

He has doubts about his relationship with Josie and wonders whether he still loves his ex, but eventually decides to try and make it work with Josie.

Though this is simply my opinion and could be me projecting personal experiences, regardless this is a brilliant song.

@BL4CKR1D3R I am pretty sure that the singer actually went through with it, and that this was not the first time he has cheated on Josie. "it's been a while since we were all alone" meanss they have done this in the past. "But I can't hide the way that I'm feeling" also means he can't stop himself.

Also, the line about "another shoulder to cry upon" I believe means that he is using these "girls" to help him cope with troubles in his own relationship, and that she is just the latest...

Everyone is assuming Josie is a girl. Ever see the movie "The Outlaw Josie Wales?" I am pretty sure that Clint Eastwood did NOT play the role woman.

So, it could be that the singer's friend Josie is on a vacation...and he is inviting Josie's girlfriend/wife over...

@juliestl I read this as "Josie and the Pussycats" who was a girl.

@juliestl that’s already been done…. “Jessie’s Girl”…! Lol

@juliestl I thought that was “Josey.” And its use as a man’s name is so 19th century.

I can't be the only guy who sees Josie as the girl that the guy is after, right? I always saw it as a guy trying to avoid a breakup with a girl with whom he's in a rough patch with.

My Interpretation
Cover art for Your Love lyrics by Outfield, The

Here's my interpretation: So this guy, whose girlfriend is out of town, meets this new girl and cheats on his current girlfriend. I think that part is clear. There are parts where I can kind of hear other things going on, for example,

"I just wanna use your love tonight I don't wanna lose your love tonight"

So, firstly, I think that he was trying to use this persons love for possibly selfish reasons, but ended up actually feeling things for her. He's saying that he didn't want any attatchments or strings, he just wanted to use her love, but then he actually fell for her, and he doesn't want to lose her now. My main reason for thinking this is because of the use of the phrase "use your love", which hints that it's not really sincere, at least not in the beginning.

I think that there might have been trouble in his current relationship, and that he's maybe trying to get back at Josie for something? Maybe she cheated on him? I don't know. I just feel like, throughout the song, he mentions indirectly that he's dealing with a diffficult thing, like when he says that he has so much he wants to say, but later he mentions how he doesn't have many friends or anybody to talk to about it. And all of this is shown in other areas of the song. I really feel this meaning during this part:

"Try to stop my hands from shakin' 'Cause somethin' in my mind's not makin' sense It's been awhile since we were all alone I can't hide the way I'm feelin'"

He's getting confused, wondering why he's starting to feel something for this girl who was just supposed to be a casual fling to hurt someone.

"As you're leaving, please, would you close the door? And don't forget what I told you Just 'cause you're right, that don't mean I'm wrong Another shoulder to cry upon "

Sad that she's leaving, trying to convince her to stay. I think that she didn't know about Josie in the beginning, and when she found out she got angry and left. Because he says, "Just 'cause you're right that don't mean I'm wrong" which to me, means that he realizes that she's right and that it was wrong to cheat on Josie with her, but he doesn't feel that being with her is wrong.

Haha, that took longer than I expected. I'll be impressed if anybody actually reads all of this. Usually when I see an interpretation this long, I just think, "Ugh, that's too many words." TL;DR

My Interpretation

Nonsense, sir/madam. I read all of that. And it was fantastic. I have my own ideas about the song meaning, but I will post them as a not-reply. But thank you for your perspective! I love this song, uuhhnn.

For what it is worth, this is my interpretation of the song...

The singer's girlfriend/wife is out of town. He's feeling lonely and wants a shoulder to cry on, so he contacts someone from his past. He knows that this person loves him. It seems like he has feelings for her too ("So many things that I want to say"), but believes her to be too young for him. He knows that he's not available for her long-term, thus the line "I just want to use your love tonight."

It seems like they've gotten together before, and at one point his feelings for the person (and/or his guilt about what he’s doing) become overwhelming. ("Try to stop my hands from shaking. But something in my mind's not making sense. It's been a while since we were all alone. But I can't hide the way I'm feeling.")

Once the singer’s needs have been met (sexual and/or emotional), his focus is on making sure that the encounter is kept secret. ("As you're leaving please would you close the door? And don't forget what I told you.)

I take the line, "Just 'cause you're right that don't mean I'm wrong" to mean that the singer knows that the person is right in wanting more from the relationship, but feels that he is also right in staying with Josie.

Song Meaning
Cover art for Your Love lyrics by Outfield, The

It is without a doubt mean that the guy is cheating on his girlfriend Josie. Although he is in love with the other girl. For some reason he feels like he is stuck in his relationship with Josie. He is in love with the other girl and the other girl is in love with him. (sorry Medikhate I have to disagree with you) The problem is the girl he truly loves is not old enough to be his girlfriend (in his mind). "You know I like my girls a little bit older" This is what is preventing him from breaking up with Josie and not going with the other girl, although he is in love with her. He truley believes the girl is right for him and deep down inside he knows what he is doing is wrong, Just 'cause you're right - that don't mean I'm wrong All of this is bothering him so much " Try to stop my hands from shakin' Somethin' in my mind's not makin' sense But he just doesnt want to do anything to change it
