Never tie a good song to a bad relationship.

When you go through a hard time, you never realize what you have or had until it is gone, or is on it’s way out the door. You may never ever realize that promises are made to be broken, and it is inevitable that you break someone’s heart, or someone breaks yours. If that one person who took their heart away from you would just give you that look they always gave you before, you would feel like the most complete person in the world, and depending on how you look at it, that one look, no matter how far you have come since your hearts were broken, no matter how happy you are, that one look will strike somewhere really deep, and it will wipe away all the happiness you have since gained back, and for a split second, maybe a short while, maybe for an eternity, you will feel the passion and love and desire you once had for that one special someone.

This song is so good.

In a way this song is about looking back. I interepret it as being about what happens when you get into your mid-late 20s early 30s and what worked for you between sixteen and twenty-five no longer works. As a friend of mine once put it (and was also stated in the movie Love And Basketball) when you're a kid/teen you have your dreams ("teenage ambitions") and it doesn't occur to you until later that things aren't gonna turn out that way. Wheb you're in your late teens early twenties you just wanna party yet after a certain point the novelty wears off and "the disco hot spots hold no charm for you". That part could also be interpreted as a general comment that by 1982 the party was over for a lot of people. Many people who had been in their twenties i the disco era were now at that point I referred to earlier and confronted with reality. The song is telling this story parallel with one about a past love that the singer's reflecting on. In a loose sense its commenting on how things can happen in the heat of the moment.

I never was a major fan of Asia. But I always liked Heat Of The Moment.

this song is most definately about how something happened real fast and he wasn't excpecting it to happen the way it did, but now he wants to remember all that was of greatness.

Depending on how mad I am, he may go through the entire song [it eventually loses connection and isn't talking about anything related to us anymore... but still] or just get through the first line.

Definitely a great 80's song. no lies, mofu.

this song is written from the perspective of a man who had a friend/girlfriend from the time they were young who he promised, basically, he would never let down. he did, though, and he regrets it. however, over time she has become a person consumed by a certain lifestyle and here she is in 1982, her youth fading, the clubs are stale to her and she doesn't really care about what's going on in the world- she's just catching the pearl and riding the dragon's wings i.e. heroin. her eyes used to shine but now she's just a broken women who will end up alone and unhappy, constantly remembering her youth and that heat of the moment. this is a great story song from the era of excess.

I like good 80s rock. This is just a great song with a great tune. I was way to young when this song was out for it to have any personal meaning. However, it makes me think about being a teenager and doing things that I am to smart to do now but loved to do without thinking about it then.

i would have to agree with pedro. something had to of happened really fast and he had no clue thi thing would happen. but where pedro went wrong i'll pick up the slack. the guy was obviously gay. going to a disco come on quere from the foot to the ear. so this ong is about love and revenge. and drugs, money and prostitutes much like most songs.

I prefer the Eric Cartman version.
