Under You Lyrics
Along the edges, colors blur at seem familiar.
While you read your magazine,
I was counting all the markers.
And California seemed to draw you like a siren
From a postcard, or a letter, in a frame of film melting.
But under you, I hear your breath move in, out slowly.
Under you, let go completely feeling you take over me.
A Hollywood flat where we'd laugh about our fortunes
Well we held jobs in this bar down at 3rd and San Vicente.
And Ramen Noodles at 4:30 in the morning,
When we barely could survive, I was never more alive.
Under you, I feel your blood flowing out slowly.
Under you, let go completely feeling you take over me
You moved in slow degrees
A sudden memory
You're a Leonard Cohen song
But every now and then I'd swear
I see you standing on a sidewalk, in a
Restaurant, from a taxi cab passing.
Under you I feel you moving in, out slowly
Under you let go completely feeling you take over me.
Take over me.

I haven't forgotten you Laura. This was one of our songs. I know you are happy now but I still haven't let you go. I'll always love you more than any other. I'm so sorry I didn't get it right... more sorry than you'll ever know.
She could never win this won because he wouldn't let her. The one hurdle that was too large and never should have been attempted. It's OK. I get it.

this song is sooo beautiful...
Gorgeous love song, for sure... written in the past tense, memories of lost (true) love... sigh
this isnt the only BTE song about an actress type girlfriend (or one wanting to go to california at least) this song is really beautiful.. i think its really what being a starving artist is about- "ramen noodles at 4:30 in the morning/where we barely could survive, we were never more alive" beautiful lyric :D
this is one of those songs that strikes a chord in you. by far the best BTE song. it is so beautiful.
"But under you, I hear your breath move in, out slowly. Under you, let go completely feeling you take over me."
they're referring to having sex. brilliant.
"Under you, I feel your blood flowing out slowly. Under you, let go completely feeling you take over me"
I was just wondering, after listening to that part, maybe could it be that the guy had actually witnessed the girl's death?
Since after that he swore seeing her "...standing on a sidewalk, in a restaurant, from a taxi cab passing."
Sound to me like this guy had somekind of trauma.
I think.
... this song is as elegant as it is moving. I don't get any "death" overtones here, he seems simply to be inundated by the feeling of "seeing" someone you truly care about everywhere, even if they're not there in the physical sense. This girl must have been an actress-wannabe, as they all tend to be drawn toward the hope and possibilities behind the neon lights of hollywood. It takes on a very "personal" feeling ... like I'm listening to a private conversation that I shouldnt be ... and seems to give me a little lump in my throat whenever I hear it
fuk dis song is sooo fukin awesome... i dunno, itz like... u get dis sense of security... da whole 'under you' motif streaming through da whole song... it doesn't hav to be sex or nething... if u notice, itz more like a big sister-small brother relationship... in da beginning, shez reading her magazine while hez counting crayons... so da guy (huz counting crayons) iz obv da younger one, or da more immature one, da one datz being taken care off... n den california calls her... n dey move... and dey go thru deir bad times... u no... as erinchan sed, a straving artist type-o-thing... (n omigod, datz da best line in da whole fukin song, erinchan)... n ya... den she goes i'm guessing... and even though shez gone, he still feels kinda 'under her', u no, under her wings... notice dat it goes from 'breathing in and out' to 'blood flowing out' to 'moving in and out'... she still lives in him... and he still lives under her... gawd, itz soo amazing... u get dis amazing feeling of security u no... seriously... wow!!
and da bridge, u move in slow degrees, a sudden memory, u're a leonard cohen song... well, havn't heard any leonard cohen song (hez a canadian poet/writer btw... think hez dead now, dunno)... but his musical career wuz totally overshadowed by his literary career... ne see a connection?
This song is one of my favorites. How great is a song when it makes Ramen Noodles sound romantic?
"And Ramen Noodles at 4:30 in the morning, When we barely could survive, I was never more alive." - when i hear this line, I remember my college days with Dara. lol
I hope she doesn't read this. I think she's happy now.
..definitely one of my favorite songs.
