Happy Day Mama Lyrics

I wrote a three page note
So I could ask you why you live your life
(disregard the pretense that you made).
Come alive, come alive, watch the city go by.
Turn me up, turn me up, turn me up, turn me up, turn me up

Your face is creased by the pillow case sheets,
The bedroom is a mess.
Can I get some room service please?
Are you lucid? Drug induced?
Through bloodshot eyes the city come alive, come alive, come alive.

Ah, how wonderful you are!
Ah, how wonderful you are!

Outside, you feel like you were born with a kick-me sign
Taped permanently to your back.
I can relate, video tape,
You got a laugh when you fell face first on the floor.

Ah, how wonderful you are!
Ah, how wonderful you are!

Are you listening?
Are you breathing?
Give me something, I can believe in,
Because you give me soul
Illuminating everything!
Aw, push it boy, push it like you never should.

Understate.
You were great,
Summering out on the cape.
I said last night how I feel about you,
But you wouldn't recall no,
You don't recall anything do you?

Ah, how wonderful you are!
Ah, how wonderful you are!

Meeting someone you think is genuinely good.

They have a bad past. Still might not be what is co sidered good. You still think they're wonderful though and will believe and fight for them.

BTE are all time greats, and this song is amazing. It anchors a 4 song run that I consider to be the greatest album flow in the history of recorded music. How Does Your Garden Grow? is an absolute masterpiece, and starting with track 3s' "At the Stars" it goes on an epic tear of eclectic linkage. The spoiled rich girl in track 5s' "Alison Foley" may well be the same girl seemingly throwing her life away in a haze of drugs and sleeping late in track 8s' "Happy Day Mama". These two more upbeat songs are the bread of a perfect musical sandwich, containing track 6s' "Under You" and track 7s' "Live Again". Brooding, reminiscent and somber, these beautiful songs perfectly compliment the others. Thank you for everything you have given us, Better Than Ezra!

For me, "Happy Day Mama" has always reminded me of my mother. Just because she loved to write long letters complaining to power companies, telephone companies, shopping catalogs, or really anything she thought might have sent an erroneous bill. When she passed away, I kept the whole collection of her crazy complaint letters and think about them anything I hear this song. Thanks for reading!
