Good Lyrics
actually, i thought the emphasis on "good" was a sarcastic reaction to the note. as in, the note had said something about how it had been good living with him, and he's disgusted that after all the investment in the relationship, all she can say is "it was good."
Doubt it's a dead body because of "call or write you a letter".
To me, it sounds like someone coming home to find that their lover is gone. Their farewell letter said it was good living with them.
The person who lives at the house is lonely and looking for signs of the liveliness that the presence of the old lover used to bring, but all is quiet.
They're insecure about contacting the flown lover, but if they did, they would not be too proud to say it was good living with them.
If the flown lover had loved the singer enough, they wouldn't have left. If the singer didn't love the flown lover too much, the singer wouldn't miss them so much
So, this is probably about realizing way too late that you actually were in love with someone you let get away.
This is my "packing" anthem ... when I'm about to take my leave from a place I've grown close to (ie. university dorm), this song seems to find a niche with me. The meaning itself is not difficult to comprehend ... a roomate/significant other has left, and he's taking stock of the physical/emotional void thats left, he's "just to frightened by the sound of it"... 'it' being the lack of the life and presence of the person who was once there. The second verse is him making those pseudo-plans we all do when we're about to leave ("we'll get together sometime for sure) and want to emtionally detach from the fact that we'll never see someone again. In the end, all that can be said is that it was "good"... which definitely has fesitious overtones considering how much of your life and yourself you share with those who you live with. In essence, a tribute to roomates and others you share your life with. One of my favorite songs, the chorus is too damn catchy!!!
@Judo_yehh I'm so glad someone was able to put this kind of a thing into words! I as well have a packing anthem except mine is "Hanginaround" by the Counting Crows. I can see how this song would do much of the same for somebody

He lost what he had and he doesn't know how or if he can get it back. A live version has him saying "Well maybe I'm just too scared" instead of "just too sure". That is an interesting change, but it fits better with the next line...
i absoulutly love this song, i wanna know how to play it on the guitar that'd be kewl. I saw them on sum TV show a long time ago and this has been one of my all-time favourites ever since.
This song has an awesome bass to it. My brother and cousins and I had a band for many years and I was the bassist. This was one of the songs in our repetoire.

this is about looking back on a relationship with no real regrets, and only being able to say "it was good"
i don't like rock too much, but this song is cool
Wow. I haven't heard this song in ages, but I can still remember the tune and everything. And I was a leetle kid when it first came out!
this song is about a guy walking around the house and everything reminding him about a person, however the person is nowhere to be found. he emphesizes the fact that the house is empty. although it is still furnished and everything, it is empty in the sense that the person is gone. it's obviously a situation where nothing else can be done or said, and both parties can just shrug and say "it was good" even if it is sarcastic. infix got it right.
The guitar riff on this song is almost identical to one of Green Day's songs ("When I Come Around" i think") but it's still a good song
