Getting Better Lyrics
It's getting better all the time
I used to get mad at my school (No I can't complain)
The teachers who taught me weren't cool (No I can't complain)
You're holding me down (Oh), turning me round (Oh)
Filling me up with your rules (Foolish rules)
I've got to admit it's getting better (Better)
A little better all the time (It can't get more worse)
I have to admit it's getting better (Better)
It's getting better since you've been mine
Me used to be angry young man
Me hiding me head in the sand
You gave me the word, I finally heard
I'm doing the best that I can
I've got to admit it's getting better (Better)
A little better all the time (It can't get more worse)
I have to admit it's getting better (Better)
It's getting better since you've been mine
Getting so much better all the time
It's getting better all the time
Better, better, better
It's getting better all the time
Better, better, better
I used to be cruel to my woman
I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved
Man I was mean but I'm changing my scene
And I'm doing the best that I can (Ooh)
I admit it's getting better (Better)
A little better all the time (It can't get more worse)
Yes I admit it's getting better (Better)
It's getting better since you've been mine
Getting so much better all the time
It's getting better all the time
Better, better, better
It's getting better all the time
Better, better, better
Getting so much better all the time
I used to get mad at my school (No I can't complain)
The teachers who taught me weren't cool (No I can't complain)

ok not everything the beatles write is about fucking drugs. Why can't you fucking people figure that out?
Someone once told me that John in an interview (I never read it) that the song is actually supposed to be kind of negative, and trying to convince yourself that sings are getting better but in reality they arent; in fact you only think it has to be getting better because it seems like "things cant get much worse" but they also seem to. Maybe a reflection on society trying to pretend bad things arent happening and by not addressing them it keeps getting worse.
Wow, no one has commented on such a great song yet? I love how Paul sings about how things are "getting better," and John informs that "it can't get much worse."
i think the song is jsut about how life gets better little by little and not instantly (no instant gratification)
I don't know any history and as to themachine312....you have commented on all the beatles songs i have so far, so there must be something about them you keep writing for...
Yeah I think the song is in the view of someone in denial, trying a bit too hard to convince himself.
This song is adressed to a mistake that is verry common to a lot of us, that is the intention of losing ourselves in a relationship by thinking it will save us from any internal problems we might have. In the begginig of the song the subject seems to have a problem with rules and authority, but then seems to find someone who we´ll make him feel better, even though deep inside this person knows it couldn´t get much worse. He goes on to tell us that he used to be an angry men and beat his women, but that this woman he found changed him profoundly. While that may be true, he clearly has some issues he needs to deal with, but instead he´s using her to fix a hole (next song on the album). The idea that this individual is blind to the problems he has and doesn´t want to look at them is seen when he shouts "Getting so much better all the time!" which means the individual is trying desperately all he can to avoid unpleasent feeling that would wreck him. Maybe I´m overthinking this song but it´s the way I´ve always looked at it.
this song seems straight forward but since its the Beatles........people need to comment on this song, yes. I dont really know anything behind it so i cant help..
it's about gaining wisdom.
actually "getting better" was a saying of jimmy nicol's. every time the beatles would see him after he subbed for ringo his response was always "it's gettng better all the time." the phrase became a sort of running joke amongst the four, and eventually led to this song.
they used the term "getting better" all the time....like.."hey how are things", "oh it's getting better". it was a common phrase they used in every day dialect
