Might Lyrics

I might
And you might
But neither of us do, though
And neither of us will
I broke every bone in my goddamn jaw
That's a lot, it's the last one I ever got
I might
And you might
But neither of us do, though
And neither of us will
Yesterday night I broke every bone in my jaw
Thought so hard, it's the last thing I ever thought

how come no one likes this song? i think its excellent, and about that romance that just never gets on its feet. AND maybe about isaac breaking his jaw outside a club a few years ago ;)

no about the latter, it was too early for that....

I think it's a great song myself, reminiscent of early Pixies in its force and brevity. More importantly, it's a nice little interlude before we settle in for the epic "Lounge" that follows it on the album. Sometimes on a great album, not all the songs are masterpieces but they work well in sequence, playing off of each other.

I think this was written before he actually broke his jaw, which I think is interesting. He broke his jaw while The Moon & Antarctica was in the works in 1999 (it was released in 2000) and "Might" was recorded in 1995 and 1996 (released in 1996). So the jaw reference is not literal.

I have heard/read many references to broken jaws and everytime I hear them it seems to refer to love (or the lack of love when then there once was love). I have searched for some sort of proof that the broken jaw is a reference to rotting love, but I haven't really found anything published on the idea (sorry to ramble about this). Anyway, I always just take the broken jaw to have something to do with love and to anyone saying Modest Mouse doesn't write about relationships, you may need to listen more carefully.

With a broken jaw it would be difficult to communicate and doing something as simple and vital as getting nutrition even becomes difficult. Take that and apply it metaphorically to any type of love that is falling apart and I think it makes sense--lack of communication, lack of satisfaction due to even the most simple things being difficult.

I know I may not be right, but it's something to think about.

I'm not sure if this happened before or after this song, but Isaac had his jaw broken one night when he got hit by some teenagers after he was talking to them while he was drunk. This is probably where the jaw lyric came from.

its one of my favorite songs but ya it could be that but i think its about pain in the relationship

It's about when you keep putting off what you really want to do and what you know will make you happy, simply because you're scared of what could happen, specifically in a relationship.

I've been there a thousand times.

And it seems like he's saying "laughed so hard i broke every bone in my jaw" but i could be wrong.

this is my least favorite song. it just doesnt fit the album at all. thats why I dont like it at least. but I think this is a little more about being too side tracked to do something, not really lazy, and not really affraid either. and then hes just wondering why this thing was never done.

I don't think that's what he's saying....it could be though, i got to listen harder to understand it.
