This song to me is talking about the way we live life thinking about things that don't matter. Whether it be stuff in our past or just stuff that's petty. It's saying to go and live life, and stop taking it for granted because there are better things to think about.

To me this song is about losing yourself to be with the in crowd.

It could also be figurative, that maybe he does have a lot of friends, but none are really on his level in terms of thinking and living, and just try to be someone there not to fit in.
