Sour Girl Lyrics
She turned away, what was she looking at?
She was a sour girl the day that she met me
Hey, what are you looking at?
She was a happy girl the day that she left me
What would you do?
What would you do if I follow you?
What would you do? I follow
Don't turn away, what are you looking at?
He was so happy on the day that he met her
Say, what are you looking at?
I was a superman, the looks are deceiving
The rollercoaster ride's a lonely one
I pay the ransom note to stop it from steaming
Hey, what are you looking at?
She was a teenage girl when she met me
What would you do?
What would you do if I follow you?
What would you do? I follow
What would you do?
The girl got reasons
They all got reasons
What would you do?
Hey, what are you looking at?
She was a happy girl the day that she left me
The day that she left me
The day that she left me
She was a happy girl the day that she left me
The day that she left me

I think, what happened, was a really sad girl met a boy, and the boy helped her grow and become more happy. At the end of the relationship, though they were parting ways, she was a happier person. Also the lyrics "she was a teenage girl when she met me" also give a hint of growth, as in she's not a teenager anymore, and she doesn't have that mentality.
This song is literally about Scott's marriage ending. Weiland claimed that he "held her emotionally hostage in the marriage". While in the marriage, she was unhappy and miserable, but once it ended, she was upbeat and happy. "What would you do if I followed you" I think literally means what would you do if I follow you to make you miserable. She left him and he was torn up about it (Scott Weiland fans know how emotionally intense he is. He has bipolar disorder. If you never have been emotionally involved with a bipolar person, especially one addicted to drugs, it's a rollercoaster ride of intense drama....and that is saying it very lightly). Seeing her so happy when she left, being wounded in his heart, he just wanted to make her suffer by refusing to leave her alone. But then he says "The girl got reasons. We all got reasons." I think he is resigned to the fact that the end of the marriage is for the best. The year they divorce, Scott marries a model. Ha! The marriage is barely cold and he is already married to someone else, meaning he obviously decided to move forward.

@dsmrtgrl She gave up on Scott due to his addiction. Sorry to say this eventually did him in. It is a sad story. They had children together and a relationship yet it was not enough for Scott to be sober.

This song is about Janina, his first wife, and their breakup, if I remember correctly from interviews I've seen with the band around the time of the song's release.
I thought it was about his first wife too.

I think this is a song about someone leaving her boyfriend and becoming more happy. When they were together, she seemed quite the unhappy.. But when she left him, she was happy.. And she took him for a ride in the middle..
this is an amazing song... mainly because i can relate to the lyrics of it... i dont know why No. 4 doesnt get more props...
i know its a shame they didnt get to tour for it fully

this is a great song about an unhappy girl. this song means so much to me because it basically describes my situation at the time being.

The whole maturity thing sounds good... seeing as that fruits are more "sour" before they mature. However I think that the girl killed herself or went crazy, one of the two. The lyrics keep referring to her happiness (drugs or crazy people), and then ask "what if I follow you", saying what if I go crazy/od on drugs. He is obviously sad about losing her, and people look at him for driving her to insanity/OD. The lines (The roller coaster...it from steaming) shows his saddness and his willingness to die.
good insight, I don't know about the OD part, but i really like the "sour" maturity thing

i agree with the growth part - but i think it also has signs of "regression" on the guys part...
when these people met, she was "sour" he was "happy" (at least on the surface: I was a superman but looks are decieving)
during the course of the relationship he built her up as a person while she seems to wear him down. it was probably this regression on his part that led to their splitting....
so.. when they went their separate ways - she was a better person while he was a wreck - they both came full circle...kinda like real relationships during those teenage years
