You can get it if you really want it
But you better off just leave it alone
You won't forget it if you ever had it
So you're better off just staying at home
She walked in with her alligator sister
Trying to get to heaven on Sunday
You'll never get it if you never had it
So better off just leave it alone

And the dogs came in
Just to see her smile
And the dogs came in
Just to see her smile
Just to see her smile

You don't get it, no, you won't forget it
You're better off just leave it alone
If you don't stop thinking, soon you will be drinking
And you're better off just staying at home
She walked in with her alligator sister
Trying to get to heaven on Sunday
You'll never get it if you never had it
So better off just leave it alone

And the dogs came in
Just to see her smile
And the dogs came in
Just to see her smile
Just to see her smile

She walked in with her alligator sister
Trying to get to heaven on Sunday
You'll never get it if you never had it
So better off just leave it alone

Coming down
Mom, I'm still healing
Coming down
Oh, and I'm still breathing
Coming down

You can get it if you really want it
But you better off just leave it alone
You won't forget it if you ever had it
So you're better off just staying at home
She walked in with her alligator sister
Trying to get to heaven on Sunday
You'll never get it if you never had it
So better off just leave it alone

General CommentI believe this song is full of debates, conversations, and arguments between he and his wife which are leading to their divorce.

"You don't get it, no, you won't forget" I believe he is telling her that she has everything she could ask for with him, but for some reason she feels like she's never satisfied, and feels the need to go complicate things when she gets bored.

Scott has probably tried telling her, that when she gets bored she goes and messes around with other people... So he's now saying, "So you're better off just leave it alone"

Scott probably has noticed that other men are always attracted to his wife. She probably flirts with them at times when Scott is there to see... "And the dogs came in, Just to see her smile". Dogs is a reference to other men in general who flirt with his wife. Men flock to his wife at any given time, even if it's just to see her smile.

"If you don't stop thinkin', Soon you will be drinkin'" She is constantly playing around with idea's of leaving Scott. Scott notices when she is distracted and thinking about things a little too much. So he's just predicting her every little move at this point.

The last part, is Scott saying he's using drugs as a way to deal with his pain. His Mom might be the only lady figure in his life who he still trusts... "Coming Down, Mom I'm still healing". He's coming down off of a high. Maybe his Mom tried getting in touch with him at the time he's trying to ease his pain...

General Commentit seems like its about a person who even though insists that she will be in heaven in the end, even though she has some flaws that prevent that, least that what i think is behind the fallowing part"She walked in with her alligator sister
Tryin' to get to Heaven on Sunday
    You'll never get it
    If you never had it
So better off just leave it alone
    "
