Wicked Garden Lyrics

Can you feel like a child?
Can you see what I want?
I wanna run through your wicked garden
Heard that's the place to find ya
But I'm alive
So alive now
I know the darkness blinds you
Can you see without eyes?
Can you speak without lies?
I wanna drink from your naked fountain
I can drown your sorrows
I'm gonna burn
Burn you to life now
Out of the chains that bind you

Burn, burn, burn
Burn your wicked garden down

Can you feel pain inside?
Can you love?
Can you cry?
I wanna run through your wicked garden
Heard that's the place to find you
But I'm alive
So alive now
Out of the dark that blinds you

My interpretation: Can you see like a child? Can you see what I want?:

  • When you see the world through a childs eyes looking at life in general; they are free from bounderies they are innocent, yet too discover the world, lacking inference which most of us base our decisions from. So basically can you look at it this way with out judgement, and then you will see what I want.

I wanna run through your wicked garden Heard that's the place to find you cause I'm alive So alive now I know the dark has found you:

He is saying he wants to run through her wicked garden: Basically this is a side of her he wants to see, it' a place to be free. How he says it; he knows that this place exist and he realizes it now. He want's to bring her back to a place of freedom., out of the dark; its a metaphor, for instance: being unaware. like wake up, let it all go.

Can you see without eyes? Can you speak without lies?:

Are you capable of seeing and speaking without judgment, he feels she is damaged, a bit corrputed maybe by todays society, or a past relationship, can you let all that go? He wants the purest part of her, to look beyond what some people cant look past.

I wanna drink from your naked fountain I can drown your sorrows I'm gonna burn,Burn you to life now Out of the chains that bind you:

I want a taste of what is pure. I can help you forget, I'm going to set you free from the problems that haunt you. lets be free together.

Can you see just like a child? Can you see just what I want? Can I bring you back to life? Are you still alive?

*When you see the world through a childs eyes looking at life in general; they are free from bounderies they are innocent, yet too discover the world, lacking inference which most of us base our decisions from. So basically can you look at it this way with out judgement. Can I help you see life in a new way... Are you capable of seeing and living free?

Burn, burn, burn Burn your wicked garden down Burn, burn, burn Burn your wicked garden to the ground, yeah.:

  • Get rid of all your problems, what ever is holding on to you, set you free from what ever it is that is holding you back. He wants to set her free...

Can you feel pain inside? Can you love? Can you cry?

  • Are you numb or can you still feel basically: are you capable of feeling, he is asking her? If you can, that means you are alive and do you realize this?

I wanna run through your wicked garden Heard that's the place to find you Cause I'm alive So alive now I know the dark has found you

Can you see just like a child? Can you see just what I want? can I bring you back to life? Are you scared of life?

Burn, burn, burn Burn your wicked garden down Burn, burn, burn Burn your wicked garden to the ground, yeah.

My Interpretation

Last verse: He is saying are you afraid of letting it all go, and living freely, can I help you be free from what you are afraid of. Are you capable of just living that is what I want for you.

Yes the lyrics are a bit tattered and misquoted, but I think we all pretty much know what they really are, as for the rest of the comments... Why is everyone spoutting off about Weiland's credibility instead of what the song really means? I think we've jumped off cue a bit.

Personally, I think the song is about being free and breaking someone of their innocence, in a sense. It's obviously about a person he wanted to be with but I think there may have been some resentment towards them in a way. The song is too vague for me to make a pure interpretation of, but I do like it a bunch. STP is definately one of the best bands out there, and Weiland is definately an amazing lyricist -heroin or not.

This song is straight out about sex. And Keanusmomma is right, Wicked Garden represents female genitalia. "Wicked" is referring to the cruel emotions that women can sometimes convey. Women have a tendency to persuade men with sex, and act like "teases". So that's where that term came from. And yes, I am a girl, so I am not downing women. "Garden" is the often humorous name given to the area.

Agreed. I'm starting to appreciate this song the more I listen.

@grissom I originally thought similar but the rest of the song seems to suggest it is more than about sex. The lines about darkness, child etc. also seem to contradict the interpretation that this is simply about sex, IMO.

This is one of the best STP songs for sure. My personal opinion is it was written after a long and scary drug induced nightmare. If you have ever been in the thrawls of a deep drug trip these are the types of thoughts that creep into your mind and they make complete sense in the frame of mind you are in at the time. The Wicked Garden is exactly that, a dead and decaying garden of darkness and pure hell. People can see without eyes, living and/or living dead are and Weiland is passing through this garden of evil and making observations of what he sees, deciding that in fact he is not scared or frightened by the experience but instead energized and awakened. Thoughts like this can only come from the subconscious mind in which an alternate reality makes perfect sense.

Why does "wicked garden" stick out as a euphamism for female genitalia? Maybe it's because of that joke...Anyway, I haven't spent a long time thinking about it, but my vote goes to "it's about SEX."

Def their best song. Im not gonna comment on how their sound changed. Just cuz its a waste to have to hear more stupid rambling about how certain people think their new shit sucks. Its just annoying after awhile.
