Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell Lyrics
I was waiting on a moment
But the moment never came
All the billion other moments
We're just slipping all away
I must have been tripping
Just ego tripping
I was wanting you to love me
But your love it never came
All the other love around me
Was just wasting all away
I must have been tripping
Just ego tripping
I was waiting on a moment
But the moment never came
But the moment never came
But the moment never came
All the billion other moments
We're just slipping all away
I must have been tripping
Just ego tripping
But your love it never came
All the other love around me
Was just wasting all away
I must have been tripping
Just ego tripping
But the moment never came
But the moment never came

Wayne sums the meaning of this song in an excellent manner on the official FL site.
"To derive one's happiness from only specific moments in time is to miss out on the cosmic accident that is all of life's moments..."
This refers to a form of apathy and or ignorant bliss I suppose. When Wayne speaks of ego-tripping, I guess he really means spacing (in both meanings) into the wishful thoughts that cloud our nights.
It's about not focusing on one particular thing in life but everything that is life. Don't let both the big and small moments pass you by because every one of them matter.
so much passes us by when we're hell bent on the one thing that no amount of wanting will get us. in our egotistical minds, we KNOW we're right about it. if we just keep at it or whatever, that it'll come to be, because it should be. BUT, the beauty of this song is just how sweetly he relates to that and encourages us to not continue doing as he's done. sadly, for some things...the moment never comes.
jesus christ how about this song describing my situation for my ex girlfriend. I wanted her so bad. I wanted to make things right this time, but it never came. She didnt want to. I felt so foolish. This song didnt help. It helped my bleed my pain and discomfort. It made me feel there are others like me. This song is amazingly sad and brilliant! I love it but it hurts.
its like hes so far gone (at the gates of hell) but hes still in denial or still on a massive ego trip. and only when its too late that hes realised what a turd hes been. fucking fantastic song. The self-admiration with blow-up mix is also really good.
To me, its about a person that is so hung up on one aspect of life that he is totally oblivious to everything else going on around him. He was so fixated on his wish for love from one person, he didn't even notice that he was surrounded by love from so many different sides. If you close your mind off to different possibilities, then you've limited yourself to one scenario.
this song is about losing something in life that you are not ready to lose. and how you just hang on to this thing for as long as you can, just blinded by how great it was. sad song.
This is a gorgeous song...it's a toss up between this one and Fight Test for my favourite from Yoshimi.
This has to be one of the best songs on Yoshimi.
The idea of "Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell" is just completely brilliant.
Dont forget my personal favorite, the synth in the backround that sounds concerned sad magical creatures flying around the singers head
