Black Maria Lyrics
Black Maria, you scare me so
I feel as though my heart stop dead
You're a liar, this I know
I watch you go around my head
Oh, I'm going down slow
You scare me so
Oh, you never let go
You scare me so
Gay deceiver, my eyes they burned
My insides turned, my brain it rolled
Unbeliever, but now I've learned
I took my turn, I come up cold
I feel as though my heart stop dead
You're a liar, this I know
I watch you go around my head
You scare me so
Oh, you never let go
You scare me so
My insides turned, my brain it rolled
Unbeliever, but now I've learned
I took my turn, I come up cold

I honestly have felt (and could be VERY WRONG, but) that this was about a guy who was surprised by an encounter with a cross dresser or transvestite, and no, the "gay deceiver" line isn't me going overboard like a simple homophobe might! It's all about being fooled, being an "unbeliever" and being scared and physically affected. Obviously, it can be about any sudden shock provided by somebody, but I think my idea holds water; Possibly a real life experience of Todd's, hmmm?...
Wow, way to not post the enitre song. Anyway "Black Maria" is an old nickname for a horse drawn police wagon
I always heard that 'black maria' was some sort of drug. But, then again, everything from that period was said to refer to drugs!

I've never heard this song, and though I'm just browsing TR lyrics, I'm definitely downloading this one! Looks like it sounds beauuutiful
I believe this song is about a man being seduced by a woman into black magic. He can't break lose, even though he knows it means death for him. She paries and drags him deeper into spooky and demonic confused pleasures. He is a goner. He was an unbeliever, but not anymore, he is slowly going down the drain of insanity.
Sort of like the old Helen reddy song "Angie Baby" except the girl in that song is insane, well, maybe...(partial lyrics)
When he walks in her room, He feels confused like he's walked into a play And the music's so loud it spins him around 'Til his soul has lost its way And as she turns the volume down He's getting smaller with the sound It seems to pull him off the ground Toward the radio he's bound never to be found

I recently learned the first parking meter was called a Black Maria. Think about that in relation to the lyrics. Surely Todd is reading this and will reply "You nailed it Larry!"
