I Blew Up The Clinic Real Good Lyrics

I have the road in my blood
I drive a custom van
I play the tunes
I'm the neighborhood ice cream man
So don't you mess this boy around

The other day, when a clinic had its local debut
Some chicks were trying to picket
The doctor threatened to sue

Now I don't care if it's a baby or a tissue blob
But if we run out of youngsters,
I'll be out of a job, and so I
I did my duty cleaning up the neighborhood
I blew up the clinic real good

Try and catch me, coppers
You stinking badges better think again
Before you mess this boy around

I've hung in Saigon just to see the special effects
I've hung from gravity boots for my Napoleon complex

It's time to close
Ooh...there she blows
History in the making
You pick the fight
I pick dynamite
I blew up the clinic real good

Preacher on the corner
Calling it a crime
Says, "The end don't justify the means anytime"
I stood up on my van
I yelled, "Excuse me sir
Ain't nothing wrong with this country
That a few plastic explosives won't cure"

i think this is one of the most wonderfully provocative and sobering contrasts of innocence and violence ever.... love the irony that he wants to 'murder murderers'.... his angle on abortion is ingenius. finding christians with this kind of dark humour is rare..... many dont know how to take it. of course at the time he paid handsomely for writing songs like this. foolish closed minded arms of the church attacked and labelled him... he was supposed to tour australia and i recall one by one concerts got cancelled....

I love the sarcastic send-up of abortion clinic bombers. Steve makes it clear that that kind of mentality doesn't "care if it's a baby or a tissue blob"; the narrator's strictly in it for selfish reasons. Moreover, he has a shallow view of the problems that beset our society: "Ain't nothing wrong with this country / That a few plastic explosives won't cure."

If more pro-life Christians were willing to join Steve in pillorying the wackos on the fringe, they wouldn't be so identified with that fringe.

What a great song.

Who among us hasn't hung from Gravity Boots for our Napolean complexes'?

"Try and catch me coppers. You stinkin' badges better think again". Steve Taylor is the f'ing man. His tongue-in-cheek lyrics finally caught up with him on this one. He pissed off a lot of people with this classic. The music is fantastic. It's what made me listen in the first place. The horns and bass line are sublime. Anyone who sees this as anti-abortion is crazy. Anyone who sees it as pro-life is a moron. It's a song about a crazy asshole. Period.

Read what Steve says about it before you go talking about morons. You just called the author of the song a moron. www.SockHeaven.net

e> Yet you are also right. The song IS about a crazy.... THAT WAS THE POINT.

I notice Steve never wrote a song called "I Blew Up the Nazi Gas Chambers Real Good" lampooning Dietrich Bonhoeffer or the Widerstand, portraying them as crazy or wicked. Can someone explain why not? No...didn't think so.
