Whatever poisons in this bottle
will leave me broken sore and stiff
When it's the genie at the bottom who I'm sucking at,
he owes me one last wish
So here's a present to let you know I still exist
I hope the next boy that you kiss has something terribly contagious on his lips

But I got a plan (I got a plan)
To drink for forty days and forty nights
A sip for every second-hand tick
And every time you fed the line,
“you mean so much to me”
I'm without you

Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say
Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say

And even if her plane crashes tonight
she'll find some way to disappoint me,
by not burning in the wreckage,
or drowning at the bottom of the sea
Jess, I still taste you, and thus reserve my right to hate you
And all this empty space that you create
does nothing for my flawless sense of style
It's 8:45(it's 8:45), the weather is getting better by the hour(rains all the time)
I hope it rains there all the time
And if you ever said you miss me then don't say you never lied
I'm without you

Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say
Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say,
who would do anything you say

Never gonna get it right, you're never gonna get it(15x)

O.k no more songs about you. After this one I am done. You're gone.[repeat until end]

Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say
Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say

i am going to do my best with my interpretation of this song..verse by verse. there are a lot of posts for this song so im sorry if mine is the same as anyone elses but i really didnt want to read through them all

"Whatever poisons in the bottle will leave me broken, sore and stiff. but its the genie at the bottom who im sucking at. he owes me own last wish. so heres a present to let you know i still exist. i hope the next boy that you kiss has something terribly contagious on his lips. but i've got a plan to drink for 40 days and 40 nights. a sip for every second hand tick. and everytime you fed the lines, you mean so much to me, im with out you."

-he mentions a genie because he wishes that the next boy she kisses has something really contagious on his lips so she gets sick. and the drinking for 40 days and 40 nights...probably to get her off of his mind. he will take a sip every second hand tick and he will drink whenever she says "you mean so much to me"

"Tell all the english boys you meet about the american boy back in the states. the american boy you used to date who would do anything you say."

-im guessing shes in england and by the title of the song i think she is there for school but while she is there she is with all these english boys. So he's telling her to tell the english boys about him(the american boy) the one she used to date. the one who would do anything that she told him to do.

"and even if her plane crashes tonight she'll find some way to disappoint me by not burning in the wreckage or drowing at the bottom of the sea. Jess i still taste you. thus, reserve my right to hate you and all this empty space that you create does nothing for my flawless sense of style. its 8:45. the weathers getting better by the hour. i hope it rains there all the time. and if you ever say you miss me then dont say you never lied. with out you."

-he'd be happy if her plane crashed but she would still end up disappointing him by not burning with the crashed plane or drowning in the ocean. I'm not really sure about the part where she says she hates him. but "the empty space that you create" part is saying that even though he isnt there, she will just be fine. and im guessing shes a bit arrogant because of the line "my flawless sense of style." he knows that the weather is nice in england so he hopes that it rains there to piss her off. when she says that she misses him, he knows that its a lie.

"you're never gonna get it right, you're never gonna get it no more songs about you, after this one i am done, you're gone."

-i guess u could look at it different ways but i think hes saying that she is never gonna be good at relationships. and after this song hes not going to write any more about her.

well i hope that made sense lol.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Head > Heels
Ed Sheeran
“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
