Jude Law and a Semester Abroad Lyrics

Whatever poison's in this bottle
will leave me broken, sore and stiff
But it's the genie at the bottom who I'm sucking at,
he owes me one last wish
So here's a present to let you know I still exist
I hope the next boy that you kiss has something terribly contagious on his lips

But I got a plan (I got a plan)
To drink for forty days and forty nights
A sip for every second-hand tick
And every time you fed the line,
“you mean so much to me”
I'm without you

Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say
Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say

And even if her plane crashes tonight
she'll find some way to disappoint me,
by not burning in the wreckage,
or drowning at the bottom of the sea
Jess, I still taste you, and thus reserve my right to hate you
And all this empty space that you create
does nothing for my flawless sense of style
It's 8:45(it's 8:45), the weather is getting better by the hour (rains all the time)
I hope it rains there all the time
And if you ever said you miss me then don't say you never lied
I'm without you

Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say
Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say,
who would do anything you say

Never gunna get it right, you're never gonna get it(15x)

Okay no more songs about you. After this one I am done. You're gone [repeat until end]

Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say
Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say

I have scrolled through a few pages of comments and, while not completely inaccurate, I think the true meaning of the song is held withing the singers sarcasm.

Obviously he is upset over a girl who has broken up with him and moved to England and the fact that he knows her intentions of hooking up with the "Jude Law" types in said country. But again, I think this isn't the main point of the song. What the singer is truly upset about is the terrible way she treated him throughout their relationship. Moreover, when he sarcastically wishes for his ex to "Tell all the English boys [she] meets / about the American boy back in the states / The American boy [she] used to date / who would do anything [she] says", he's not trying to say that he is better or worse than any of her potential boyfriends, he's upset that the effort and devotion he had dedicated to this relationship is going to be criticized by his ex-girlfriend. Probably stating that he "tried too hard" or "was a pussy" or something of that nature.

These kind of relationships are extremely damaging to a guy's self-esteem and indeed their image of women. I've been through something similar and it has not been easy getting back to where I once was.

With this, I can really relate to this song and I'm glad I found it.

Yeah Jude Law is a British actor. My interpretation is that the reason Jesse chose that as the title is cuz Jude Law is like the stereotypical goodlooking English guy that Jesse imagines the girl kissing, kinda uses it to conjure up an image in the listeners head.

Oh how i wish there were boys kissing some ex girlfriends of mine with something contageous on their lips. Maybe Herpes. Hmmmmm...

Good song from a Great band.

this song, to me, means for wrong doing done to him, he wishes karma would take effect and grant her with a disease from the next guy she kisses.

he is saying that he thinks virtually nothing could make it any worse (i.e. her dying in a plane going there) hell still be dissapointed anyway.

he is saying in the chorus that he hopes she reflects on the memories shes had with him and tells all the "english boys she meets"

throughout the song, various lines "i hope it rains there all the time" "even if your plane crashes...

Jess isnt the girl. Jess is short for Jesse, singer/songwriter of Brand New. All of his sayings are in the song, so there would be no need to put a saying in quotes unless its from another person ie/the girl. Just thought I'd clear some things up.
