Cool Blue Reason Lyrics

Cool blue reason empties on the page
Your colleagues are in prison and your enemies enraged
Cool blue reason comes into your world
There's two more dead in Texas and it's probably your girls
Cool blue reason wraps around your throat
The minutes change like seasons
Only eight more hours to go

Cool blue reason comes into your life
There's one more dead in Kansas and it's probably your wife
Cool blue reason I'm just talking to myself
Cool blue reason I'm just rearranging Hell
I'm just talking to myself
I'm just talking to myself

Cool blue reason wraps around your throat
The minutes change likes seasons
Only eight more hours to go
Only eight more hours to go
Only eight more hours left to go

Naw, I disagree. It's cool blue reason - pure cold reason, blocking emotion just so you can keep going. Being alone to fight your enraged enemies, knowing that your wife and children are probably dead in another state far away from you but totally powerless to do anything, and time feels like it has slowed as you feel each visceral moment pass. What else can you do? The time to grieve and mourn is not now, you have to find a way to keep going.
Also, if you listen to it, in the beginning they play with his voice and make it all mechanized and stuff...almost robotic, just logic, no emotion. That's what I think the song is about. And by the way, I thought the line was "I'm just rearranging health" not "hell"...

Abortion doctor.

My Interpretation

Could very well be. I never thought of this. The "two more dead" and the "one more dead" could be references to abortions, and those who were aborted could have been his future wife or step-daughters. Who knows? But a very unique interpretation.

Perhaps it is the intrigue of shows like "Intervention", but I get a feeling it is about methamphetamine. Cool Blue can be perceived as ice, which is a common term for meth. Pour out the bag that empties on the page of a magazine for consumption. Collegues are common in prison with meth being a major focus of law inforcement. And you might have to steal from a friend, therby enraging a new enemy. And you can't count out a rural Kansas murder... The Cool Blue Reason wraps around your throat. Seems subtle but obvious. Ever read about people being paranoid, constantly looking out the curtains for cops or enemies, perhaps? I bet that feels like eternity. Or a minute lasting three months. And only 8 more hours to go. Given that a meth high lasts longer, this is probably at the peak level of this person's experience.

Most stories don't have the individual seeking the drug. It just comes into their life. Then your wife is dead in Kansas. The paranoia is usually a self enveloping mind f#@k where they converse with themselves. Rearranging the hell they are living in to keep occupied. Talking to yourself because your mind is racing on a speedy high. With only eight more hours to go.

I have never done meth, nor plan on it. From print reports, news media, and shows like "Intervention", I perceive Meth as this song so humbly sets it out. The Reason why this person is in this scenario is because of Cool Blue. Ice. Meth... And the tone of the song solidifies the emotion of despair. Especially at the end. Top 3 Cake songs in my book. Despite the heavy message I get from it.

My Interpretation

Very likely interpretation. I can imagine how all of what you said is what the writer was referring to.

8 hours could also relate to the average "healthy" regimen of sleep. (used to be 8-10, i think they're saying 7-9 now, whatever.) maybe it's just a song about the random crap that runs through your head while you're lying bed awake at night.

I think this song is about a guy who just realized that everything that can go wrong has gone wrong and there's nothing he can do about it. Hence his "cool blue reason" is that he is now rationally thinking about and accepting how screwed he is. That's just what I think.

i agree

That definitely fits the song. I think your explanation is at the very least a broad explanation of what the writer is saying. The writer may be referring to something more specific (see the comment about Cool Blue meaning Meth) but either way this explanation still applies. I could totally relate to this song through your explanation, meth not so much.

Reading the news in the morning and reading about deaths around the world and feeling nothing; the news is ‘blue’ but his mood is ‘cool’. With today’s tech he hears about murder in the news all the time, so “two more dead in Texas” and “one more dead in Kansas” is nothing out of the ordinary. Who knows? It could be his wife or his daughters, but it’s probably not. “The minutes change like seasons.” It seems emotion for how boring his job is more powerful than the tragedy he's reading about.

My Interpretation

Also, "Your colleagues are in prison and your enemies in reign." He know's people that are in jail, the people in charge of the government don't have his interests in mind. But none of this is really his problem. It's a douchy way to think, but honestly, how many people are concerned enough about these issues we hear in the media to actually do something about it? Few. To many, they are content with their simple, uneventful lives. Ugh work is boring, all I want to do is go home and watch Two and a Half Men. 1st world problems......

I agree there are multiple interpretations for cool blue reason The possible meaning that resonates with me is the reality of gun violence and mass shootings that increasingly are a plague throughout the USA. A gun barrel is made of ordinance grade 4140 steel. To prevent the steel from rusting it is treated with a bluing solution that turns red iron oxide into a bluish black iron oxide color. This treatment can be accomplished by cold bluing. Reading the lyrics makes me think about the cool blue steel of a gun barrel pointing at victims of gun violence and the mass shootings we see on tv and read about in the news. Knowing how Cake rolls it is possible this song is taking aim at the interpretation of laws and policies that have caused our country to become flooded with guns.

I think i might have something to do with a guy possibly connected with the Mob or something, who is going to be released from prison and is worried about what has happened to his wife and children, and about what will happen to him, as his "friends are all in prison", but, like lindyswingster said, he has to be sensible and keep going.

@Weeble that\'s what I got out of it ala Charles Morgan
