Life Goes On Lyrics
I felt this before
Now I feel it again
No matter how hard I try
This feeling won't end
So I pretend you're here by my side
Tonight on this lonely ride
I keep telling myself that
Chorus:
Life goes on while you're miles away
And I need you
Time goes on as night steals the day
There's nothing I can do
You heal up my wounds
I tasted your tears
You spilled out your heart
So I let out my fears
But one fear that I kept to myself
Was how I prayed that you'd love no one else
Like you're saying you love me
Chorus
If you only knew how much I miss you
Solo
When my mind plays these tricks on me
It shows me things I don't want to see
That's why I tell myself
I keep telling myself
Just take another piece of me
Chorus
And this last mile I travel with you
Now I feel it again
No matter how hard I try
This feeling won't end
Tonight on this lonely ride
I keep telling myself that
Life goes on while you're miles away
And I need you
Time goes on as night steals the day
There's nothing I can do
I tasted your tears
You spilled out your heart
So I let out my fears
Was how I prayed that you'd love no one else
Like you're saying you love me
It shows me things I don't want to see
That's why I tell myself
I keep telling myself
Just take another piece of me

I have been friends with a girl for almost 20 years and we have been through so much together. We love each other however her love for me is platonic. She has been married for over a decade to another man but I fell in love with her-my best friend. I could have written this song. Every single word is exactly what I feel. We spent so much time together but now we are apart so I can try to get over her. But I can't. I can only accept what I can't have. It hurts-it's hard-but life goes on.
I have been in this position many times over the years of my adult life. I will go through a break up, and always wonder what she is up to, but I never do anything further than wonder. Its an amazing ballad, and Poison was really overlooked when it came to writing a good ballad just because they were a glam band to begin with.
The solo in this song is second to none -- CC really could rip it on the axe. Underrated guitarist.
As for the song and Brett's lyrics -- MOST of us have been in this situation at some point in our lives...
Edit: As for Justintime's post from 2006, I've heard this before also -- this would indeed alter the meaning of the song dramatically.
hmm I think this song is about a very hard break up, long term probly

There is a much more tragic meaning or inspiration behind this song. Bret Michaels says he wrote it for CC Deville, whom at the time had a girlfriend who ended up getting shot in the head and killed while out one night. The final line emphasizes this I believe, "And this last mile I travel with you" Makes me think of someone who passed on, more than someone who just gotten dumped.
To me this song is about loving someone and losing them, i think it could be able death or just breaking up, And being in love with them and being stuck in that certain time and not being able to move on. Even though you know lifes still going on around you, you cant seem to move forward.
i love this song<>
this song is truely sad and depressing for me.to me it's about a breakup that it should have been easier.the lyrics and i pray that you love no on else shows that you still care about them and hope they won't love someone else the way they loved you.you keep telling yourseelf that life goes on but you still love the person and it's hard to go on
