In Denial Lyrics
In Denial
No, my life's a trial
I'm not denying that every little bit hurts
It's a problem that I'm not solving
Don't mind admitting I feel like quitting this job
For a while, getting away before it gets any worse today
You're in denial
And that is final
You're not admitting, you should be quitting
All these queens and fairies and muscle Mary's
The rough trade boyfriend, who in his pathetic own way denies he's gay
Why can't he see this is a fantasy
I think I'm going mad
How'd you know if you're going mad?
Look at me I'm lonely
Look at me I'm sad
I'm not denying I could be trying a little harder to deal with some of this stuff
Know what I'm thinking
Less drugs and drinking
No cigarettes, and you'll feel a little less worth
Is that enough? My life is absurd
I'm living it upside down
Like a vampire working at night, sleeping all day
A dad with a girl who knows he's gay
Can you love me anyway?
No, my life's a trial
I'm not denying that every little bit hurts
It's a problem that I'm not solving
Don't mind admitting I feel like quitting this job
For a while, getting away before it gets any worse today
And that is final
You're not admitting, you should be quitting
All these queens and fairies and muscle Mary's
The rough trade boyfriend, who in his pathetic own way denies he's gay
Why can't he see this is a fantasy
How'd you know if you're going mad?
Look at me I'm lonely
Look at me I'm sad
I'm not denying I could be trying a little harder to deal with some of this stuff
Less drugs and drinking
No cigarettes, and you'll feel a little less worth
Is that enough? My life is absurd
Like a vampire working at night, sleeping all day
A dad with a girl who knows he's gay
Can you love me anyway?

There's something so strange about this song - it's beautiful in a way, but the fact that the lyrics are so literal dissappoints me - it needs some metaphors, some euphimisms, some symbolism and imagery to make the language sound as nice as the song is - I don't know if that makes sense to you, but it does to me!!
yes it makes sense, but the pet shop boys music is very literal. this song is great in the Showgirl concert.
I agree with butterflykiss84, this song sounds so beautiful and when you realize what's being said it is very strange. Yet I like it very much.
Not that it matters now because these comments were left 4 years ago..... BUT I have to say that maybe it is literal and strange because it is about something you choose not to accept. And if you play the religion card, then to that I will reply, God doesn't approve of secular music. So bite your tongues.
