Mine Lyrics

i wait in the darkness
frozen winds surround my face
in the cover of darkness i can make believe
it's you
i feel you like the rain
i feel you like a storm cloud
building in my heart
i wonder if you know the pain
to want the one thing you haven't got

just a twist in time ...and you could be mine
just a sip of wine ...and you could be mine
just a kiss divine

a hand brushes by my love
a smile fuels a steel inferno
you don't have to die to leave my world
stand still and you've departed
it seems i'm not on your mind and
i'm just wasting my time

i'm just a fool to believe
in the death of the night
can you feel me inside?
i wish that you could conceive...

just a twist in time ...and you could be mine
just a sip of wine ...and you could be mine
just a kiss divine ...and you could be mine

won't you leave me in the darkness
take away the pride, all the dignity
that's burning inside
can't you see i'm standing naked
i'll bear all the crosses and the crucifixes
you can provide
if you could decide

just a twist in time ...and you could be mine
just a sip of wine ...and you could be mine
just a kiss divine ...and you could be mine

If there ever was a song that I had to call my favorite Savage Garden piece, it would be this one. I just love the fact that the lyrics and the music are both so haunting and plus, the song gives you the feeling of a vampire waiting in the shadows; it would fit perfectly in a vampire movie.

This is one of my all time favorite songs, which coincidently I heard by accident. I was listening to my favorite radio station at the time and the DJ played the B-side instead of the released track and voila! I heard "Mine". I agree that it's very dark and mysterious...definately one of Darren's best works lyrically. However, it doesn't exactly make me think of vampires anymore, though it did at first. It wasn't until I got a little older that I started thinking it seems less of an immortal-feeling song and more of a human longing type of thing.

Honestly, what this song makes me think of is a man who is deeply in love with a woman who in turn doesn't know he exists. He is drawn to her and his strange and compelling love for her turns him into somewhat of a voyeur where he is reduced to hiding in the shadows and watching her from a distance. He's constantly thinking about her; wanting her, needing to touch her, maddeningly longing for her. The line: :"In the cover of darkness I can make believe it's you" is the first big tip-off that he's experiencing voyeur tendencies. It makes you believe he's watching her from the shadows, contemplating.

It's a very sexy song. My friends and I were 14 when we began making up sexy stories and scenarios based around this very song. We're 21 now and we never stopped making up sexy stories based on the endless possibilities of these lyrics. We thank you Darren and Daniel for the restless slumber party nights of imagining watching you from the shadows. 0.o Hehehe...

ooh...points to comment above i'm actually making a vamp movie! okay, back 2 song...i like this song a LOT and think this is one of those that really didn't deserve to be a b-side. i LOVE this song!

I no wot u mean. Speaking of B-sides - I've got a CD of all their B-sides and they are all so brilliant! Many artists just use remixes or useless rubbish for their B-sides, but SG always have pretty good ones, perhaps this is because good songs are the only ones they make!

I think I remember a quote where Darren said that this song was partially inspired by the movie Dangerous Liasons?

Either way I adore it. Just a terribly intense song about the pain of unrequited love.

Exactly how it was said before...it's so full of wishing for someone and unfulfilled desire...that you can feel the pain reflected in his voice and the sound... Seems like Darren is saying that it's only a dream...he is just picturing the situation in his head...cause she just doesn't care a bit about sharing that fantasy with him. It would take a twist in time, a sip of wine, a kiss divine...but it won't happen, and you know it, and it hurts.

wow lucky you eirenightshade, you got to share this song with other people, I happen to be the only Savage Garden/Darren Hayes' fan in here. I agree it's a very sexy song as well, like I said above, it always connected me to my own unfulfilled desires about a particular person.

Gabigs, heh heh, I know how you feel. It seems that people really don't know of SG anymore, aside from the occasional tune they hear at the grocery store or in an elevator or something, at least. It's sad because while they weren't around long, they were a breath of fresh air that paved the way for a whole new scene of truly talented musicians, that also seem to have faded off since SG broke up.

And it's even better when you've been able to grow up with them because the lyrics only take on more meanings and the music only brings more and more to appreciate. While it's sad that they broke up, I'm almost glad though. If they were to get back together, they would not be the same band as both members have moved on...that was painfully obvious in their second and last album, that they were drifting apart. Darren is fabulous solo, but he alone doesn't have the spirit that Savage Garden thrived on.

In a way, I feel that those two were meant to be musical soulmates, but since they were growing apart, I think they did the right thing by breaking up when the music began to take on the notes of two people who had nothing in common.

Anyhoo, on a side note, "Mine" is a song I celebrate grandly because I feel it's the essence and backbone of Savage garden. This song says to me "This is what Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones can do when their hearts are in the same place", and the outcome is amazing.

creepy sounding song!

This by far is one of my favorite SG songs. It is so eerie-sounding with a twist of sexiness, and angst. To me, this song seems to be about a man, Darren, wanting a woman he can never have and he knows it; it's unrequited love. She's not even aware of him and these feelings. The first verse sounds like Darren is fantasizing about her. I agree with 'eirenightshade' that there are some voyeuristic elements to this song--that's what makes it so intriguing! I love it-- it's an amazing and underrated song in my opinion. ♥
