Did You Steal My Money Lyrics
I wake up on broken glass
But you left your number
All the members of the cast
Reckon I was lumbered
Did you steal it
Did you screw me
Did you peel it
Did you do me
Did you steal my money
Did you steal my money
Are you out there Mr no-one
Is my investment growing
Sorry that I got so drunk
But I wrote you a poem
Did you search me
Did you turn me over
While I cold turkeyed
On the sofa
Did you steal my money
Did you steal my money
How can we forgive a grievance
Now that we all live with demons
Did you know that poor old veteran
That you kicked right out of his bed
Says that he cannot forget you
But he does not wish you dead
Leave his gold watch in reception
He will keep the sixteen stitches in his head
Did you steal his money
Did you steal his money
Did you pinch my trainer football
Say if you half inched it
I thought I heard a female foot fall
While I washed my kitchen
Did you use me
Why did I trust you
Why'd you abuse me
I ain't gonna bust you
Did you steal my money
Did you steal my money
Did you steal my money
Did you steal my money
Did you steal my lolly
It fell right off my lorry
Did you pinch my brasso
Nick my belt you asshole
Did you steal my money
Did you steal my money
Did you steal my money
Did you steal my money

All the members of the cast

It's what happens when you get money. At some point it dawns on you that you have just become a massive target, a "sweet treat", for every kind of thief and scammer that comes out the woodwork - they can literally smell the money. Those born to money learn it from birth, they just know that people want their money, and will just take it if they can. This is what Pete's just learned. Not a nice realization, and Pete as always doesn't mince his words.
Man...I love the Who, but these are some of the crappiest lyrics ever, with the exception of "Just leave his gold watch in reception / And he'll keep the sixteen stitches in his head." But seriously..."inched it" / "kitchen"? That hurts.
I disagree. This song is well written. I love the simple drum beat. Its fun to play.

Eh, not nursery school to comply with the rhyme, but the theme which the lyrics allude tell one hell of a tale, can't you tell? lol. While I haven't a clue as to what brasso is, it rhymes quite well will asshole and "nick my belt" really rounds out the entire song...having to create another notch in the belt because of being drained by the man. The duality of this small indication could refer to abundance, but the entirety of the song suggests starvation and being impoverished by the establishment while stickin' it to de man!

It's all cockney slang. "half-inched" is "pinched (stole)"

Love the Face Dances album, this song became a favorite for me right away. It's rather fun for a song about getting screwed over. Btw I highly doubt that 'inched it' and 'kitchen' were intended to rhyme! They were not consistent with rhyming here... more often than not they didn't.
Catchy tune on Face Dances but after reading Townshend's autobiography I am liking this song more.
After a one night stand with a beautiful girl in Phoenix, Pete had $50k in an envelope stolen out of his duffle bag and didn't know it until he got back to the UK. The song was born!
This was one of the worst songs ever recorded by the band; it can be seen as a kind of catharsis, if you read "Who I Am", Pete's autobiography. It's noteworthy that the more self-pitying Pete gets, the more the quality of the music itself suffers. "Empty Glass" (from the album of the same name) is the only exception to this.
This was outlined in his book Who am I. He was given a large sum of cash, $50K I think. He went out with a female friend, partied and lost the money. He was not quite sure who took it.
