A great, happy song which basically shows that tommy can't see, or hear, or anything, which we alreday knew.
i'm still puzzled as to what, exactly, is the point of this song, seeing as how it's just a re-iteration of things we already knew.
Who freak, you gotta look deeper than lyrics man, look into the placement of the song.
This is while he is staring into the mirror, his mother is trying to comfort him with loving words to coax him out of his "deaf, dumb, and blind" transe.
Forgot to add this, his Mothers loving words are followed by his fathers impatientness and unforgiving in Smash the mirror, ill put a post there.
If I recall correctly, wasnt this played by the mother and father in the original movie?
They kept shouting at him- TOMMY CAN YOU HEAR ME? etc etc.
I believe thats the only reason for this song.
I think the point of this song is the way it ends. It's kind of Tommy's perspective- a quiet distraction that he physically hears but doesn't really register in the reality of his thoughts.
sonic_13, in the film, the mother and the lover (not father. father was killed in movie) sing "Tommy, can you hear me?" over and over during Christmas. This song is sung only by the mother.
A very nice up-beat song that was sung by the mother. It is surely about Tommy being deth, dumb, and blind. They do repeat "Tommy" over and over at the end and it does sort of represent Tommy's mind state as some had said. By the way, The Who is the greatest band ever.
This is the build up to the mother smashing the mirror. She is trying to get a response from him, but all he does is stare at his reflection.
