Town Without Pity Lyrics
When you're young and so in love as we
And bewildered by the world we see
Why do people hurt us so
Only those in love would know
What a town without pity can do
If we stop to gaze upon a star
People talk about how bad we are
Ours is not an easy age
We're like tigers in a cage
What a town without pity can do
The young have problems, many problems
We need an understanding heart
Why don't they help us, try and help us
Before this clay and granite planet falls apart
Take these eager lips and hold me fast
I'm afraid this kind of joy can't last
How can we keep love alive
How can anything survive
When these little minds tear you in two
What a town without pity can do
(Instrumental break)
How can we keep love alive
How can anything survive
When these little minds tear you in two
What a town without pity can do
No, it isn't very pretty what a town without pity
Can do
And bewildered by the world we see
Why do people hurt us so
Only those in love would know
What a town without pity can do
People talk about how bad we are
Ours is not an easy age
We're like tigers in a cage
What a town without pity can do
We need an understanding heart
Why don't they help us, try and help us
Before this clay and granite planet falls apart
I'm afraid this kind of joy can't last
How can we keep love alive
How can anything survive
When these little minds tear you in two
What a town without pity can do
How can anything survive
When these little minds tear you in two
What a town without pity can do
Can do

This is such a sad song. Everytime I hear It, I think about a homosexual relationship. Or someone who gets picked on. There is so many close minded people out there it's disgusting. Town Without Pity may not have intentionally meant for it to be, but it's fits quite well into a "forbidden" love scenario, and how people can be cruel. It's really a great song.
I was thinking Romeo and Juliet. But then I get a nagging feeling it's not as simple as that.
It's the theme song for the movie of the same name. The plot involves four American soldiers in Germany, accused of raping a local woman. They're facing the death penalty. With support from star Kirk Douglas, blacklisted writer Dalton Trumbo contributed to the script. Douglas discusses the blacklist era in one of his autobiographies, and Bryan Cranston played Trumbo in a 2015 movie. Lot of people put out of work over their political views. There's your town without pity. If 45 becomes 47, watch it happen again.
