Perfect Pair

I love Jonah... and this is one of my favorite songs. not only are the lyrics completely poignant and make me want to cry, but it's also a beautifully melodic song. it's almost eerie how this echos my sentiments concering my ex... "you shine on, stronger than i've ever seen you. why'd you have to come around? Why can't i walk away? Why should i care? is it just a matter of being me or are we just the world's most perfect pair?"

agreed, this song does seem to relate best to a partnership but it also does remind me of the relationship between best friends. more than likely friends with some obvious obstacles between them.. possibly unrequited love?

omg..this song is so beautiful. This is definitely one of my favorite onelinedrawing songs. It's so....aloof. That's probably not the right word to describe this song though. All I know is that its euphonious.

this song is definitely amazing, i saw jonah a few weeks ago at skate and surf fest and he played so well. he reminds me of what american football was like before they broke up... the only word to describe it is perfect

I had this crazy and obsessive best-friends-with-a-crush kind of relationship for about two years...

Yesterday, about 3 years after the end of said relationship, he tells me this song always reminds him of me.

He started to explain what he thinks the song means:

"To me it's about love for a person you shouldn't be loving that way, for whatever reason. The first lines make me think that even when everyone looks the same to me, I see you being different, being everything no one else could ever even try to be. Then the "Why'd you have to... ...should I care?"-part is me thinking I should stop wanting something I can never have, and wishing you'd just get out of my head. Then there's the lines about how I'm thinking of all we ever were and the fact that we never really adressed the things that were between us... and while I recognize them now, I keep thinking you're the best that's ever happened to me. As for the mask: you were always the one to give me the strength to face the world."

I really wanted to hit myself when he was finished but all I could realy do was cry my brains out.

I think what he described fits the lyrics really well.

Why would you want to hit yourself over something like that? You shouldn't think of how you let it slip away or of things you would've done differently. You should think of the fact that something in you inspired him to feel this way. A piece of who you are made him feel a kind of love greater than most. It's actually something to be greatfull for... and proud of.

And: I think his description might indeed just be what those lyrics are about :)
