Watch The Children Pray Lyrics

In a darkened graveyard glows a light.
I see it shine there every night.
I know somewhere there's a hidden door.
There's an answer here we must explore.

No, I'll not submit to reason.
I'll sit and watch the seasons change.

We watch the children pray.
Save us God today,
Come whatever may.

We hold our fate and make the choice,
But we'll not listen to that still small voice.
Are we just crazy, out of our minds?
Wish this were someplace, another time.

We watch the children pray.
Save us God today,
Come whatever may.

And I know we're going
So far away from this wretched life we lead.
With open arms meet catastrophe,
In the valley of the damned we'll be.

And I know we're going
So far away from this wretched life we lead.
With open arms meet catastrophe,
In the valley of the damned we'll be.

We watch the children pray.
Save us God today,
Come whatever may.

And now to life we say goodbye.
I know the when but not the why.
Our nation's blood spills on the ground.
Our lives go out without a sound.

I think this song is about a land that is stricken with poverty and hardship, with its people standing on the edge of salvation. Praying is surely what millions of sick and starving children in underdeveloped countries would be doing today and tonight. This is a fucking wicked tune! It's probably one of my favourite thrash metal ballads!

I love this song. I think it means that while men are killing each other with war and disease and such, the children pray. At least that's what I got from it.

I agree with Kylekraze totally. The song feels very apocalyptic, people are dying needlessly and the narrator is finally realizing this now as he's dying and he imagines the children praying for a brighter future. Although he seems to die willingly, and others die with him, not really sure what to make of it all really.

Such a haunting and beautiful song though.

This is a very political commentary of a song. It's a great song. I believe when this album came out, in the late 80's, the cold war was still going strong. This song is about the THEN nuclear threat. The children would pray that we would avoid the ultimate doom of mankind.

This is a haunting song. There is a line that says, "Be we won't listen to that still, small voice." Jehovah spoke to the prophet Elijiah in a "still, small voice." So, I think this song is mocking God and His children who pray to Him. The official video is filled with images of church burnings. The lyrics seem to come from those who revel in their own condemnation in a future hell. "In the valley of the damned we'll be."

@jaysonbourne 1 Kings 19:12 "And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice."
