its amazing how far music can come.. 24 years after it released and its one of the most heartfelt songs ive heard
We keep
On wasting time
We sleep
And think that we exist
So we live
Without peace of mind
If this was your last night
Could you leave your fears behind
If this was your last night
If this is your last time in a life
Feel every moment of this night
Get up and enjoy
Believe in miracle
Believe in
Believe in
Believe in miracle
We dream
But don't wake up
And we miss
All that can be lived now
So we breath
Without peace of mind
If this was your last night
Could you leave your fears behind
If this was your last night
If this is your last time in a life
Feel every moment of this night
Get up and enjoy
Believe in miracle
Believe in

On wasting time
We sleep
And think that we exist
So we live
Without peace of mind
If this was your last night
Could you leave your fears behind
If this was your last night
If this is your last time in a life
Feel every moment of this night
Get up and enjoy
Believe in miracle

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

The Night Lyrics Deep in the darkness slumber Endless sleep Nothing moves inside my funeral suite I feel the sun slip down as hunger strikes Waking like being born Here comes the night
All my senses awakened By little demons Taste the human heartbeat Bittersweet Bittersweet
Don't take long To get back in the groove Sharpen up your attitude Get down with the moves Don't look no stranger In the eye Walk across some trouble baby Just walk on by
No tomorrow-take it right now
In the night I walk alone In the night is where I belong Take my flesh-I'll give you my soul Hungry night keeps driving me on
Neon concrete jungle Devour the weak the humble Hear the city nocturne Makes you burn
Oh slip on into darkness Sharpen up your awareness Get your seven senses working tonight
No tomorrow-take it right now In the night I walk alone In the night-that's where I belong Take my flesh-I'll give you my soul Hungry night keeps driving me on
No tomorrow-I take it right now
In the night I walk alone In the night-that's where I belong Take my flesh-I'll give you my soul Hungry night keeps driving me on
In the night I walk alone In the night-that's where I belong Take my flesh-I'll give you my soul Hungry night keeps driving me on On and on
