Still Waiting For The Punchline Lyrics
i want to find the water
that will wash this whole damned slate clean
break down
break up
we sleep in what we create
right now i'm living so much hate
right here my sin's have all been paid
to you
your friends
and for your sake
i feel dirty and so depraved
my knees have bled to hold you here
but now i've lost the taste
for lies force fed as time well spent
and if another angel says just grin and bear it
i might be forced to smash his head against the wall
and never sin again
against myself or trust in anyone
write me off for suffering
it's a joke
i give up
that will wash this whole damned slate clean
break down
break up
we sleep in what we create
right now i'm living so much hate
right here my sin's have all been paid
to you
your friends
and for your sake
i feel dirty and so depraved
my knees have bled to hold you here
but now i've lost the taste
for lies force fed as time well spent
and if another angel says just grin and bear it
i might be forced to smash his head against the wall
and never sin again
against myself or trust in anyone
write me off for suffering
it's a joke
i give up

i think the song's about what people are expected to put up with in this society, to "grin and bear" certain unpleasantries... we teach people to be modest, meek, forgiving, apologetic, and shameful while letting others walk all over them. and when someone opens their mouth or raises a fist they are spoken out against and often laughed at. "it's a joke. i give up" ...sad that so many people are trained this way without even knowing it
I can't beleive of all the songs by BSF that I'm the second one to put something down for this song. I mean it's such a rad song and it's got all the emo of the other songs that have 15 hits. Crazy. Oh well hidden gem I guess. So I guess I can put down what I think. Hmmm... I like listening to what everyone else puts and making my own conclusions. Not that I look to others to etch beliefs in my head, but you can find pieces of each persons interpretation and find truth in it.
"and if another angel says just grin and bear it i might be forced to smash his head against the wall" holy shit. lyrical genius. miss the old bass player though. oh well, still incredible
this song is about getting dumped. the title, "still waiting for the punchline" is like when someone breaks up with you and your stunned, like you can't believe it, like you think its a joke and your just waiting for the punchline, and then in the song he talks about how he'll never trust anyone again... that was a pretty good interpretation with the "grin and bear it", i think that it means more along the lines of someone telling him that he'll be ok.. whoever it is thats breaking up with him.. the singer explained this song before they played it the first time i saw them, thats why i know...
Yeah, this song is pretty good for Boy Sets Fire, I think it has to do with like what Superman9k said, what we're trained to put up with and how messed up it is.
this song really describes how it feels to break up with someone. I HATE HATE it when your friends either tell you to get over it or to move on. and you just fell like punching thier face in. "and if another angel says just grin and bear it i might be forced to smash his head against the wall "
For me, this song is about losing someone you love before actually losing them. You can see the signs but theres nothing left to do but grin and bear it. It's funny when you think about how they're "force feeding" you lies to make it seem like everythings OK, even though you can tell it isn't.
i think it's about losing faith. "you" allways means faith or god. i think "right here my sin's have all been paid to you, your friends and for your sake" is a strong hint. also "angel" is a very strong metaphor in this...
it's a joke, i give up!
