Smoke Like Ribbons Lyrics
Smoke was pulled in ribbons
From the windows of the car.
I followed the flash of silver from your teeth.
Above the tarmac, the lights were icy-green,
Buried in patterns in your chest,
A quiet shimmering.
Little dipper, tiara-shine, song bird shivery, the thin, thin dime.
chorus: Smoke like ribbons
Songs were pulled in ribbons
From the window of the car:
Lost along the shoulders of the highway.
Cake walk dancers unwind from their spin,
Singing, "Lawty, lawty, loved him."
Stark don't give a flat fuck.
chorus
From the windows of the car.
I followed the flash of silver from your teeth.
Above the tarmac, the lights were icy-green,
Buried in patterns in your chest,
A quiet shimmering.
Little dipper, tiara-shine, song bird shivery, the thin, thin dime.
From the window of the car:
Lost along the shoulders of the highway.
Cake walk dancers unwind from their spin,
Singing, "Lawty, lawty, loved him."
Stark don't give a flat fuck.

I cant believe nobody has posted anything on this beatiful song yet. I dont quite know what it means but its my fav song on sharpen your teeth.
This is a song about how the singer and a girl might have driven around often in a car. "smoke was pulled like ribbons from the windows of the car." meaning that when they smoked they could see it get pulled out from the open windows. Talking about star constellations is how they would look at the stars maybe out of the sun roof or on top of the hood of the car, who knows. "songs were pulled like ribbons from the window of the car....lost along the shoulder of the highway" this could mean when they sang in the car they had the windows down so their voices drifted to the highway. "lawty lawty loved him, stark don't give a flat fuck" this could mean many things. In my own opinion it means the girl he was with in the car loved another man but the guy driving with her didnt care because he was with her now.
this is the best song on the album
so beautiful. i love how he says cake walk dancers.
This song never made a big impression, and then suddenly, a few days ago, as I was walking to my dorm late at night, I started thinking about it. I've listened to it over and over since. It's perfect.
cake walk dancers unwind from their spin singin' "lawty lawty loved him." stark don't give a flat fuck.
Yeah this one kind of creeps up on you. Didn't blow me away at first but now I just love it.
Definitly did sneak up on me, then I ended up stuck on it for almost a month.
I don't have much important to say, I agree with musikisfun. Somehow him singing "stark don't give a flat fuck" is still pretty.
This song is perfection when in that mood. The one where your alone with "her" late at night maybe on the way to the beach. Lite that cigarette at just stare at the stars.
Yeah, but, what the hell does "Stark don't give a flat fuck" mean? I always thought it was "The stars don't give a flying fuck". The actual lyrics just bother me for some reason.
No I think your right ShemmJacc, it does say "the stars don't give a flying fuck". Anyways this song was actually one of the first to stick out to me on the album along with Barnicles, Hotcha Girls, and Cat Faces. It reminds me of those long drives, distances to where you've never been and nothing could feel as good as being with the people that are around you. But yet there can be that simple silence in a car noticeing all the little things inside this small space such as smoke pooring out a cracked window. I've always found beauty in simple things and I find that Isaac is always able to capture those small things that I seem in the world as beautiful or even dark but still beautiful in their own way. Isaac's music has inspired me and been with me for a long time and got me through some fo the worst.
