Easy From Now On Lyrics

There he goes gone again
Same old story's gotta come to an end
Lovin' him was a one way street
But I'm gettin' off where the crossroads meet
It's a quarter moon in a ten cent town
Time for me to lay my heartaches down
Saturday night gonna make myself a name
Take a month of sundays to try and explain
It's gonna be easy to fill
The heart of a thirsty woman
Harder to kill the ghost of a no good man
And I'll be ridin' high in a fandangled sky
It's gonna be easy; It's gonna be easy from now on
Raw as whip but clean as a bone
Soft to touch when you take me home
When the mornin' comes and it's time for me to leave
Don't worry 'bout me; I got a wils cart up my sleeve
It's gonna be easy to fill
The heart of a thirsty woman
Harder to kill the ghost of a no good man
And I'll be ridin' high in a fandangled sky
It's gonna be easy, It's gonna be easy
It's gonna be easy from now on

I was bummed to not see any comments for this song! Well I heard Miranda Lambert's cover of the song and found out it was originally by Emmylou Harris. I love this song. I think it's about a girl finally getting rid of this guy and moving on. "easy to fill the heart of a thirsty woman and harder to kill the ghost of a no good man..." I love this line. I write it down everywhere. But there are some parts to the song that make me think she is trying to get over this guy by moving on to the next and skipping out before she gets hurt again, she has another action plan, or a wild card up her to sleeve, so she won't get hurt. I love this.

some corrections though, i'm pretty sure she says, I'll be ridin high in a fandangled sky and don't worry bout me i got a wild card up my sleeve.

My Interpretation

@MsChizzy I love it to! One is well advised to always have a wild card up one's sleave. Plan "B" makes it a' good again. Susanna Clark & Carlene Carter wrote this thing in a minor key .. sad .. with brilliantly optimistic word lyrics "fandangled sky". It's been my mantra since 1981 when Emmy lou sang it during her 1981 Quarter Moon tour in Madison.

It's gonna' be easy from now on!

I think the card up her sleeve is suicide. She's had enough, and she's getting out. That's why it'll be easy... and she'll be riding high in the fandangled sky.

My Interpretation

I think this song is about a girl who is just about done with someone who has drug her around to the point of exhaustion. This song is a realization and a plan to get out of a bad cyclical relationship. The song indicates a “one last time” and the wild card up her sleeve is the fact that she is actually done this time.

But as for the application to my own life, it’s about someone who comes in and out. Every time he comes into town I see him and end up at at square one in this heartbreak. He comes and he goes as he pleases but leaves me destroyed every time, and as soon as I’m healed he comes back. For me this song is hope that one day I will be able to just let it go, and that will be by saying no. After I say no and follow through with it that initial time, living my life without him will be easy from that point on. My wildcard is leaving town when he comes so I can’t run back to him.

don't wanna sound sordid, but it's like she's moving on from a bad relationship and tries to fill her heart with one night stands; "take a month of sundays to explain" sounds to me like confessions in a church; she has fun for one night and tries along time to forgive herself, all for being with a no-good man.
