You stroll along
Retrace your footsteps
You see a child
He's left alone
Alone to stay
Alone with no one there to play
You recall your childhood
Still lonesome today
chorus
All he wanted was a friend
Someone he could talk to
Relate to
You attempt to reach
but then you look away
Nothing's accomplished
Two shadows fade
What to grow as?
What will you grow up to become?
Where are these answers?
Oh they'll come along
chorus
You wonder why you're still alone
You cry all night on your roof top
What are you hiding?
Is it something I must know?
chorus
Retrace your footsteps
You see a child
He's left alone
Alone with no one there to play
You recall your childhood
Still lonesome today
Someone he could talk to
Relate to
but then you look away
Nothing's accomplished
Two shadows fade
What will you grow up to become?
Where are these answers?
Oh they'll come along
You cry all night on your roof top
What are you hiding?
Is it something I must know?

A man, looking back to his childhood, sees a boy. He's all by himself, no one wants to play with him.. all he wanted was "a friend, someone he could talk to, relate to" This man looking back, realizes that.. he wouldn't mind being the boy's friend.. but peer pressure was on him to be like the rest and not be his friend.. so he doesn't.. and now as he's looking back, he feels meloncholic, because he knows it was wrong.. that little boy only wanted a friend, or someone to relate to.. but instead he was left to himself.. a song about peer pressure.
