Pass the Dutchie Lyrics

This generation
Rules the nation
With vision

Music happen to be the food of love
Sounds to really make you rub and scrub

I say: Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a gonna burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

It was a cool and lovely breezy afternoon
(How does it feel when you've got no food?)
You could feel it 'cause it was the month of June
(How does it feel when you've got no food?)
So I left my gate and went out for a walk
(How does it feel when you've got no food?)
As I pass the dreadlocks' camp I heard them say
(How does it feel when you've got no food?)

Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a gonna burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

So I stopped to find out what was going on
(How does it feel when you've got no food?)
'Cause the spirit of Jah, you know he leads you on
(How does it feel when you've got no food?)
There was a ring of dreads and a session was there in swing
(How does it feel when you've got no food?)
You could feel the chill as I seen and heard them say
(How does it feel when you've got no food?)

Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a gonna burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

'Cause me say listen to the drummer, me say listen to the bass
Give me little music make me wind up me wheels
Me say listen to the drummer, me say listen to the bass
Give me little music make me wind up me wheels, I say

Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a gonna burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

You play it on the radio, a so me say, we a go hear it on the stereo
A so me know you a go play it on the disco
A so me say we a go hear it on the stereo

Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It a gonna burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance

I say east, say west, say north and south (on the left hand side)
This is gonna make us jump and shout (on the left hand side)

Sounds like they're puffing the magic dragon, because they didn't receive their food ration for the month, or something to that nature. "Smoke ah the weed mon" damit! now i got this song stuck in my head.

You were right about a dutchie being a pan. But, "Pass the Koutchie" was not originally by Bob Marley (nor did Bob Marley ever do it), it's by The Mighty Diamonds.

This song is actually not about smoking the ganja. Dutchie=feeding pan used in a village. As for the references to it, this song was originally done by bob marley, called "Pass the Koutchie", which was about smoking dope. But when musical youth did it, they changed it to Dutchie instead of Koutchie. So the original version is about drugs, this one is about a feeding pan. sorry to disappoint you

bloodybitch is right, a dutchie is a pan but you can also call it a pot. they had to change it to dutchie because young kids like that couldnt release a song about Koutchie, real pot. they explained it all on vh1's greatest one hit wonders.

I'm pretty sure this song IS NOT about ganja in most of the song it says "how does it feel when you got no food" dutchie is a pan, i doubt that they're smoking ganja out of a cigar there more graceful than that.

I think the song has a bigger meaning than a pan and/or ganja it's about how JAH leading them to the music, well not just the music but together with other people. Where they're sharing their food. This song says nothing that hints that they're high, I know we would all liketo think thats what they're doing

BUT NO. The fact of the matter is they aren't, that's not all rastas do....they are more complex than that yes alot of popular rastas smoke but wtf that's not all of them..... reggae is actually like african gospel, yeah there some like sublime(not hating on sublime i love em) that take it to another level where honestly it's not what reggae is or suppose to be. But at the end of the day most reggae talks about JAH which is another word for god, So...um... yeah

@adust2121 My late response is to at least acknowledge your attempt to broaden the scope of the song's lyrical foundation beyond the reflexive meaning of ganja (which may be completely a racist response). People just can't seem to see or accept that sometimes there's more to life outside of 'sex, drugs and rock n roll'

Actually, Dutchie is also the nickname for a Dutch Master Cigar -- (makes more sense than a song about passing a cooking pot considering where it came from)

This online dictionary: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=dutchie

...mentions cigar and also the pot definitions... it looks more like they just swapped one smokable for another - but hey - I wonder what Musical Youth would say about it ;)
