Take The Fifth Lyrics

Wendy's walking out alone and it's saturday night
All the boys act tough but they've gotta bite
When they do they'll get more than a slap on the wrist
And it's clear who's promoting her own myth

So I'll take the fifth
Take the fifth oh

Everybody talks it up all of saturday night
And all the kids want to brag in fact that they got a right
But it ain't gonna be just a slap on the wrist
And it's clear who's gonna go and promote her own myth

Gonna talk the fifth
Take the fifth oh
But I'll tkae the fifth
I'll that the fifth oh

In back of the room when she walk on through find 'em stacked against the wall
On the tip of their tongue is the word that all along could turn around the way it'd fall

The thinking about what she's got she's about got me backed against the wall
On the tip of my tongue cause I knew it all along I'd be back there if I wouldn't fall
If I wouldn't fall

If I wouldn't fall
Wendy's out on her own it's a saturday night
And I've been hanging around as if to save my life
All the girls stand around with their hands on their hips
Cause all the boys have already fallen prey to her myth

But I'm gonna take the fifth
I'll take the fifth on
And I'll take the fifth
I'll take the fifth on
And I'll take the fifth
I'll take the fifth
And I'll take the fifth
I'll tkae the fifth oh

The fifth amendment to the American constitution in the bill of rights is the criminal rights amendment, almost always used as the right to not incriminate oneself in court. " No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation. "

it could be taken the other way, but if it's used as the fifth amendment, most people would say "i'll PLEAD the fifth". which makes me think it's meant in a drinking way.

I wonder if Spoon are big Stone Roses fans.

honestly how would the song sound if he said "gonna plead the fifth". if you search taking the fifth or take the fifth, the first thing that comes up is stuff about the fifth ammendment. It fits better than a drink too "and it's clear who's promoting her myth" and "cause the boys have already fallen prey to her myth". She's spreading some story and he's just going to keep his mouth shut.
