New Death Sensation Lyrics
I wonder have you ever seen the sky
and felt this weight upon open eyes
New death sensation
flesh flowers dream to bloom
Illumination
New death sensation
we dance the stone death naked by the shore
I hear her highway song forever more
empty is this tomb
lay this flesh to waste
let the pieces fall where they may
insects play their sunshine games
splashing blood on my soul
crisp black kiss upon my skull
lay this flesh to waste
let the pieces fall where they may
let the worms play their sunshine games
slashing blood on my soul
crisp black kiss upon my skull
empty is this tomb
and felt this weight upon open eyes
New death sensation
flesh flowers dream to bloom
Illumination
New death sensation
we dance the stone death naked by the shore
I hear her highway song forever more
empty is this tomb
lay this flesh to waste
let the pieces fall where they may
insects play their sunshine games
splashing blood on my soul
crisp black kiss upon my skull
lay this flesh to waste
let the pieces fall where they may
let the worms play their sunshine games
slashing blood on my soul
crisp black kiss upon my skull
empty is this tomb

The lines "lay this flesh to rest/let the pieces fall where they may" make me think of suicide. And "crisp black kiss upon my skull" = kiss of death, maybe?
"Flesh flowers dream to bloom", I'm guessing, refers to the desire to be dead and buried underground, like a seed made of flesh. Not sure how coherent that is in words, but it makes sense in my head.
For some reason the first two lines make me think of being buried and having the weight of six feet of dirt on top of you. But then that kind of contradicts itself...You wouldn't be able to see the sky if you're underground, and your eyes most likely wouldn't be open. But then again that could be the point. You're still alive (and thus still able to see the sky and your eyes are still open) but at the same time you feel dead. I don't know, I'm just rambling now.
The song is very depressing overall. The distorted guitars, the banging noises, and weird vocal effects all add to the mood.

i personally believe this song is about a psychedelic trip, illumination, flesh flowers dream to bloom (sounds like psilocybin to me)

the "egodeath" concept surrounding taking too much lsd or psilocybin and other substances makes me feel like the term "new death sensation" has almost direct relation to an egodeath, also the term "lay this flesh to waste, let the pieces fall where they may" reminds me of the go with the flow attitude you're meant to have when taking psychedelics otherwise...

I tend to think the opposite of the previous comment. The song is called New Death Sensation, this leads me to believe that it is exploring the idea of what it would be like to be dead. What would you feel? What would you think? I wonder have you ever seen the sky- After being dead for centuries would you remember ever seeing the sky? And felt this weight upon open eyes- The literal weight of the world, the six feet of earth you are buried under. Flesh flowers dream to bloom- The corpses underground (flesh flowers) desire to be alive again (bloom) We danced the stone death naked by the shore, I hear her highway song forevermore- I think this is just to represent past memories of life, dancing, warm memories of your significant other. Empty is this tomb- Possibly to signify that a tomb is meant to hold death, but in this case it holds life, or maybe the person is the tomb and feels empty inside, or maybe it's about raising from the dead literally leaving an empty tomb behind. The black kiss may be the kiss of death. Lay this flesh to waste, let the pieces fall where they may- The body may die, but the soul lives forever. He's saying destroy my body it is useless to me now that I'm dead.
The insects and worms are just representations of death and decay, being that they consume your body after death. Illumination represents a new knowledge/feeling/sensation you have learned what it is like to be dead.
I believe this song to be about the death of a loved one and the after effects on your life. Judging from the writing, it could even be about a murder that was never solved. Jack Kevorkian has a guest spot on this track playing the Violin.
This song is so scary. The unnerving effects on the guitar...freaky. Dax Riggs is an awesome lyricist.
Dax is by far one of the most poetic lyricists I've ever seen.
